Turns out, there is a much simpler way to peel your potatoes that will make life ‘so much easier’ and reduce the risk of any culinary accidents – but not everybody is convinced by the ‘genius’ hack

Upgrade your spud game with this ‘genius’ peeling hack that will make your life ‘so much easier’.

Potatoes are a staple in British cuisine – whether you have a penchant for a humble Jaccket with baked beans or simply can’t resist a plate full of homemade chips doused in salt and vinegar. They’re extremely versatile and cheap to buy, and taste amazing baked, roasted, fried, and mashed. But, peeling out beloved spuds is a laborious chore, one that leaves your hands covered in sticky starch, or even blood from an accidental cut. Luckily, there is an easy solution to your peeling dilemma, and it is bound to take your culinary skills to the ‘next level’.

Taking to TikTok, influencer Kari, who has built up an impressive following of more than 84,000 users, warned Brits that we’ve been peeling our potatoes ‘wrong’ this entire time. Instead of holding the spud with your hand and using a peeler like most of us normally do, the content creator suggests stabbing your tatt with a fork.

Then, she simply hold the fork’s handle with one hand and peels the potatoes with another, turning the fork to make sure all the skin has been removed. Yes, this creates a little bit of washing up as you have to clean the utensil – but it saves you having to wash your hands again and makes it much safer to peel.

Dozens of impressed viewers took to the comments section to praise the hack, with many vowing to try it out for themselves. “That’s great idea. Why didn’t I think of it sooner?” raved one user. Another agreed, commenting: “Now I can stop peeling off my finger! Thank you.” A third added: “Where have you been my whole life?!?!?” while a fourth wrote: “You my dear are a genius!”

Others were quick to point off that chips and mash still taste great with the skin on, and actually contain more nutrients. “I don’t peel them at all,” one user explained. “A good scrubbing and they’re all set to go.” Another asked: “Why are you peeling potatoes? The vitamins are in the skin,” while a third said: “I hardly ever peel my potatoes anymore.”

According to Healthline, potatoes are a good source of potassium, folate, Vitamin B6, and vitamin C, but these minerals and vitamins can decrease during cooking. However, keeping the skin on while baking or boiling your spuds will help preserve some of their nutritional content.
