Marcus Rashford’s future appears to lie away from Old Trafford and his Manchester United exit could lead him to AC Milan or Barcelona if either side can get a deal over the line

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has provided his help to Marcus Rashford ahead of a possible move to AC Milan this month, as the Italian team weigh up a deal.

The former Manchester United striker is now an advisor for the Rossoneri and is said to have vouched for Rashford amid doubts. The wantaway forward has received the backing of the Swede amid concerns over whether he would benefit the dressing room at the San Siro.

Milan, per Gazzetta Dello Sport, are deliberating over a move for the 27-year-old and are reported to have been anxious over Rashford’s attitude and Ruben Amorim’s decision to regularly leave him out of United’s squad.

Rashford has expressed his desire to take on a new challenge, while United are keen to sell the academy product. The forward’s £325,000-per-week salary could prove prohibitive however.

Mirror Football understands Rashford’s representatives have held talks with Barcelona. The Catalan club would be required to find more than £5 million to complete a loan deal as they would need to take on all of the player’s wages.

Reports in Italy have suggested Milan will find a deal easier to come by and perhaps Ibrahimovic has now eased fears to help a move get over the line. The Serie A side have been reluctant to part way with the money required to pay Rashford’s wages however, with Alvaro Morata their current highest earner on £150,000-a-week.

Asked to clarify is advisory role a Milan earlier this season, Ibrahimovic said: “I am the boss and I am in charge, all the others work for me.”

Milan have served to give a more comprehensive overview however.

“At AC Milan, Ibra will serve as a Senior Advisor to Ownership, which is led by RedBird and includes the New York Yankees, one of RedBird’s longest standing partners in sports,” RedBird, owners of Milan, said.

“Working in close coordination with both AC Milan Ownership and Senior Management, Ibra will play an active role across the Club’s sporting and business operations and will help reinforce the Club’s winning culture. His mandate will include player development and high-performance training, advancing AC Milan’s global brand and commercial interests, and supporting special projects of strategic importance, including the Club’s new stadium.”
