Zoe Ball was emotional as she began her last ever show on BBC Radio 2 after six years

Zoe Ball broke down in tears this morning before kickstarting her Radio 2 show for the last time.

Signing in for one more show, Zoe immediately thanked her listeners for the support over the years and read out a number of messages from her fans. She revealed a number of messages had made her shed tears, including one from pal Oti Mabuse.

Introducing the programme, she revealed that the whole team were back together for her final farewell but admitted: “We’ve had some tears already. We don’t quite know what to do with ourselves this morning, do we? I’ve come in and I suddenly can’t remember how to press the button.”

Meanwhile, another co-host confessed: “I wasn’t sure which chair to sit in!”

Zoe continued: “We’re all pretending we’re going to be OK, that the emotion isn’t getting to us – but it’s definitely getting to us. So hold tight! But Richie, so many nice comments yesterday – made me blub my eyes out!”

She added: “I’ve already had a little cry on Patrick! But we’re going to have lots of fun today. We’re playing some of my favourite records today – both Christmassy and non-Christmassy ones and we’ll get through as many messages from the listeners as we can.”

Zoe went on to reveal the texts she had received from celebrities, including Cher. “‘Christmas with my girls Sunday,’ that’s Cher as she says ‘have a lovely show’. Cher, the actual Cher, is texting into the show. Oh bless her. And thank you Oti Mabuse for your gorgeous message as well. That made me cry too.”
