TV presenter Frankie Bridge told fans “don’t sleep” on the £10 sunglasses

A £10 pair of sunglasses that are perfect for summer could easily be mistaken for a designer pair with a much bigger price tag. With summer and sun on the way, many people will be getting their warm weather essentials together – including everything from dresses and shorts to hats and sunglasses.

Online fashion retailer Ego is stocking a pair of sunglasses which look almost identical to a £400 designer version – except these ones are just £10. The glasses were spotted on Instagram after TV presenter Frankie Bridge posted a photo wearing them.

Each week, Frankie shares her fashion ‘faves’ on her Instagram Stories, and this week they included the Oval Cat Eye Shape Side Detail Sunglasses in pink from Ego. The former The Saturdays singer shared a photo this week wearing River Island jeans, an ASOS top and the Ego glasses.

Frankie shared a snap of just the accessories she was wearing too, including Birkenstock sandals and a bag also from Ego. Text over the top of the photo read: “Another sunglasses dupe…girls don’t sleep on these.”

The Oval Cat Eye Shape Side Detail Sunglasses in pink from Ego are similar to Celine’s Triomphe 01 Sunglasses in Acetate Powder Rose. The two are very similar in design, featuring the same oval shape and thick arms, as well as a very similar emblem on the side.

However, the Celine glasses feature the brand’s name engraved into the gold-tone logo while the Ego glasses are plain, with the emblem made of plastic. The Ego glasses are also a lighter shade of pink.

Ego’s product description reads: “Add a pop of colour to your accessories doll. Featuring a pink material, with side logo detailing, an oval cateye shape and a sunglasses design.”

The Oval Cat Eye Shape Side Detail Sunglasses in pink from Ego are priced at £10, while the Celine Triomphe 01 Sunglasses in Acetate Powder Rose would set you back £400. This means shoppers could save £390 by opting for the cheaper alternative this summer.

Alternatively, a number of retailers are stocking similar pink sunglasses. ASOS has the A.Kjaerbede Bror festival sunglasses in havana for £15, down from £30, while Selfridge’s has the Le Specs Work It oval-frame polyethylene sunglasses.

New Look also has the Bright Pink Rectangle Frame Sunglasses for £9.99, which has an overall rating of 4.8. Among the rave reviews, one person said: “Love these glasses, great style!”

A second wrote: “They’re beautiful and so good for the price! Perfect summer staple.” A third shopper added: “Love these they are super fun.” Other shoppers gave the glasses a four star rating, but all reviews were four stars or above.

Marks and Spencer’s is also selling a pair of Oval Cat Eye Sunglasses for £15 in ‘apricot’. In the reviews, one shopper said: “Bought the apricot coloured one for the first time. Looks great and will enjoy wearing it all summer!”

However, one customer wrote: “The glasses look good on but I found that they reflected light back into corner of my eye, which I found uncomfortable so probably not suitable for those who are sensitive to light. Maybe the darker colour rim would not do this as I purchased the apricot ones.”

A second put: “These are nice enough, especially for the £. My only criticism is that they are very ‘flat’ – no shape to the frame or lenses at all.” A third added: “Nice modern style, but disappointed no case included.”
