Protein supplement fans looking for a tasty alternative shakes will be delighted by a foodie’s creative recipe that’s packed full of protein and low on calories

Protein shakes have long been a go-to drink for fitness fanatics looking to bulk up in the gym or maintain a balanced diet. But not everyone is so fond of the consistency of the shakes.

Well, look this way because a foodie has just shared her protein ice lolly recipe, and it sounds delicious. As seen in a TikTok shared by popular creator @pieracafolla, Piera Cafolla recommends using your favourite protein powder to create your very own sweet treat.

The method is simple. She says to mix clear whey protein and water, let the mixture sit for a few minutes, and pour it into ice lolly moulds, then all that’s left to do is to crumble frozen raspberries on top and pop the moulds in the freezer for six hours to set.

In her video, Piera opted for My Protein’s strawberry-flavoured Clear Whey Protein creating a tasty-looking lolly perfect for anyone looking for an alternative to shakes. “They’re only 45 calories each and have 11g of protein,” added the creator, who shared her exact recipe.

To make four lollies, Piera used 50g of protein, 200ml of water and 10g of frozen raspberries, and the simple recipe delighted viewers. “Ohhh why did I never think of this?” questioned one impressed commenter. A second praised: “Such a good idea.” “Ok wow,” another penned, while someone else praised the creator’s ‘tasty’ recipes.

As the experts from Lloyds Pharmacy Online Doctor point out, it’s preferable to boost your protein intake using natural food sources, and supplements should not be used as your main source of protein or to replace meals. That said, they could be helpful for some.

The experts say: “Eating a protein-heavy meal after a workout can be inconvenient. Protein shakes do offer an immediate post-training boost, and this intake of protein will help build muscle after exercise. Only use protein shakes as a complement to your diet. And remember – in order to see any benefit from protein shakes, you must be exercising regularly as well.

“Protein on its own does not magically build up muscle. It is through repairing muscle torn by exercise that protein helps muscle grow.” Additionally, always speak to your GP before making any drastic diet or lifestyle changes.
