Nick Ramsdale, who has previously been outspoken about Mikel Arteta, made his feelings clear after Bournemouth’s Premier League win on Saturday to leave many Arsenal supporters furious

Aaron Ramsdale’s father is in hot water with Arsenal supporters after a social media post celebrating Bournemouth’s win against his son’s former club.

Goalkeeper Ramsdale was sold to Southampton on deadline day after being relegated to second choice under Mikel Arteta.

And Nick Ramsdale, who has previously been outspoken when things have not gone his offspring’s way, toasted the Cherries win on Saturday evening with a simple post on X that read: “BACK OF THE NET BOSCOMBE!!!!!!!!”

Bournemouth’s 2-0 win, after William Saliba was sent off, proved a huge blow to the Gunners’ title aspirations but Ramsdale senior’s goading his not the first time he has spoken against the north London club’s grain.

Nick Ramsdale infamously appeared on an Arsenal supporters’ podcast last year when David Raya became Arteta’s first choice between the posts.

“We did not have a clue (Ramsdale was going to be dropped for David Raya),” Ramsdale senior told the Highbury Squad podcast in November last year.

“I didn’t have a clue, our family didn’t have a clue, Aaron didn’t have a clue that he was not going to carry on playing. Aaron is going to be the cup goalkeeper, and David Raya is going to be the main man unless something happens, an injury or a sending-off.

“And Aaron’s got to live with that, and he is living with that even though he’s not been told it. By anybody. You’ve got to give the guy a chance, for God’s sake. Squads evolve all the time, nobody is going to be there forever. The way it’s been done, in my eyes, it’s been wrong.

“Aaron lost that smile. It really is difficult to see him there. My only problem is when I spoke to Mr Arteta on the phone before he signed Aaron, he said he wanted Aaron. But now David Raya is back on the market and he has David Raya.”

Arteta, meanwhile, has said he will leave the decision on whether or not to appeal the red card shown to Saliba against Bournemouth up to his bosses at Arsenal.

Saliba saw red after hauling down Evanilson just before the half-hour mark on Saturday’s defeat as the Cherries star looked to race onto Leandro Trossard’s poor pass back. The Frenchman was initially shown a yellow card by referee Rob Jones.

But VAR Jarred Gillett reviewed the incident before calling Jones over to the pitchside monitor. After the official had seen a number of replays of the incident, he upgraded Saliba’s yellow to a red card.
