Although Christmas Day is done and dusted for another year, there’s still so much to look forward to, like Boxing Day and, of course, New Year’s Eve celebrations. Now if you’re planning your next feast, well you’ve come to the right place indeed.
To really leave your guests drooling, you could try this succulent gammon recipe which is sure to be a ‘showstopper’. Shared on TikTok by user @archerkitchen_, who boasts 26,600 followers, all you need is one surprising ingredient.
In the clip, the user credited Coca Cola as her secret ingredient for this mouth-watering grub. She said: “This is my slow cooker cola ham and mustard glaze. A Boxing Day showstopper.
“Add all the ingredients into the slow cooker and cook for 4 hours in high or 8 hours on low. Score the fats and pour over that delicious glaze and add the cloves, then cook in oven at 180 degrees for 20 minutes. Carve up and you’re ready to tuck in.”
Ingredients (for 6-7 guests):
Glaze:
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp dijon
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 10 cloves of garlic
Ham:
- 1.3kg unsmoked gammon
- 1 carrot
- 1 onion
- 2 bay leaves
- 2-3 cloves of garlic
- 1.7L Coca Cola (full fat)
Method:
Place the ham, carrot, onion, bay leaves, 2-3 garlic cloves and Coca Cola into the slow cooker for four hours on high or 8 on low. Then make the glaze mixture, mixing together the ingredients before removing the ham from the cooker to score the fat all over.
Make sure you pour that delicious glaze mixture over the ham, leaving 1-2 tbsp for the end. After press the remaining cloves of garlic into the criss cross diamonds and pop back into the oven at 180C for 20 minutes. Remove from the oven, drizzle the rest and enjoy.
Since it was shared, it garnered just over 700 likes from drooling fans. One wrote: “Making this for New Year’s Day, thanks for sharing.” While another added: “That does look fantastic.”
