The Philips TAT1209 True Wireless Earphones are available in black, white and pink colourways

If you are looking for some wireless earphones but don’t want to pay the steep of leading brands then an affordable pair from Debenhams is worth a gander. The Philips TAT1209 True Wireless Earphones were originally £29.99, but have been reduced to £24.99.

The earphones come in white, black and pink hues and are encased in a portable sharing case. Tap the left earbud to activate dynamic bass and enjoy the full power of your favourite basslines, even when listening quietly.

You can also use them to take calls as the mic picks up the sound of your voice, while a noise-reduction algorithm reduces some of the background noise around you. Meanwhile, the mono mode means you can use either earbud while the other one charges.

The earphones have an impressive 18 hours of playtime, and you can fully charge them in the case in two hours. They are perfect for taking on long train or plane journeys, or if you’re a commuter, they’ll liven up your morning travels.

A Debenhams shopper said: “Doesn’t stay in your ears, poor sound, no noise cancelling, battery dies quicker than said on the box, everything feels very cheap. There are much better ones out there for the same price.”

A Philips spokesperson replied to the review, saying: “Sorry to hear your experience was less than 5-stars. If you’re open to discussing your experience further, you may reach us anytime on Facebook, Instagram or platform X.”

The Debenhams website has limited reviews of the earphones, but you can also buy them on Amazon, where there are more reviews available. One customer bought them for her husband and left a detailed review.

She said: “I bought these for my husband as he lost his headphones. These are very good quality overall. The microphone is better than his previous, more expensive pair, which was one of the main things for him.

“The sound quality and battery life are both good. They come in multiple sizes, so they are perfect in the ear.”

Another simply noted: “Very pleased with them would recommend.” And a third pleased buyer remarked: “Easy to use and very cute colour (pink).” And if you’d prefer to shop at Amazon – maybe make the most of a Prime delivery slot to arrive before Christmas – the retailer is offering the same Philips pair for £24.

It’s here though where some shoppers said you ‘get what you pay for with the pair’ and it’s worth noting that those who have seapped from Apple AirPods noticed a difference in quality. As one shopper said: “Quality is OK for taking calls but not for music or watching videos.”

Over at Argos you can save £50 on Apple’s AirPods Pro with USB-C MagSafe Case (2nd Generation). Typically £229, they are on sale for £179 ahead of Christmas Day. They have a smarter noise cancellation, ideal for making calls and listening to music in crowded, public areas.

For those who prefer headphones, Currys has slashed the price of Sony’s WH-1000XM4 Wireless Bluetooth Noise-Cancelling Headphones by £54—now £175, down from £229. Available in blue, black, and silver, they have 30 hours of battery life, while the quick charge feature gives you five hours of battery life in just ten minutes.
