Shoppers have spotted an Easter treat they’ve been begging for—but it’s not from Cadbury. Instead, a supermarket alternative is catching attention.

Creme Eggs and Mini Eggs hit shelves around this time of year, making them a confectionary that Brits often enjoy around Easter. In recent years, the classics haven’t always been enough to keep fans returning, with Cadbury having to come up with new and interesting twists – including white chocolate options.

Fans have asked for but are yet to receive a spreadable version of the Easter egg-themed Cadbury chocolates. Aldi has stepped in to offer Brits versions they can include in this holiday season.

Fans spotted two chocolate spreads landing on shelves just weeks before Easter Sunday. Priced at £1.80 each, there is the Gooey Spread and Mini Egg Chocolate Spread, allowing fans to add a seasonal taste to their toast, pancakes or whatever they wish – some claimed they’d even dive in with just a spoon.

The Gooey Spread is seemingly inspired by Cadbury’s Creme Egg, which has a creamy texture and yellow and white colouring. While Aldi’s Mini Egg Chocolate Spread features miniature chocolate eggs within the mixture.

People quickly reacted to the products, which were shared by food blog @Newfoodsuk on Facebook. It wrote: “Brand new Mini Egg and Crème Egg [alternative] spread now available at Aldi UK.”

One person replied: “Had to check whether this was true and it is. Can’t wait to try these!” Another wrote: “Just got a jar of both today. Well played Aldi, well played!” A third commented: “Putting Cadbury to shame! The mini eggs one is divine!”

Some had ideas for using the spreads. Someone posted: “They’d be good for cheesecakes!” Another said: “These would be lovely to make Easter milkshakes!” One more put: “That creme egg one is a must try!” Someone else said: “Taste so nice – especially when warmed!”

The chocolate spreads are also sold in Aldi in ice cream cones and tubs. They were brought back by popular demand after appearing last Easter to the delight of fans.

The supermarket has been making headlines lately for its unique food offerings. At the start of the month, it was announced that experts in the Aldi kitchens had worked out how to turn the viral Dubai-style chocolate into delicious ice cream.

Shoppers were told that, despite being announced on March 31, the product would only arrive in stores from Monday, April 14. The popular treat has already seen some supermarkets impose strict limits on how many items one shopper can purchase.
