Liverpool signing Giorgi Mamardashvili is due to arrive from Valencia over the summer and his move comes amid speculation over the future of first-choice keeper Alisson Becker
Alisson Becker is expected to snub any interest from Saudi Arabia this summer. Liverpool goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel does not expect the Brazil No 1 to want to leave the Reds for the Middle East.
There has been growing speculation that there could be interest in Alisson but the Reds would not want to sell. That’s despite the impending arrival of £34m Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia this summer.
Now Brazil legend Taffarel, who also works with Alisson at the national team, has revealed the keeper has no interest in leaving. “Ali wants to continue living this story,” said the 1994 World Cup winner.
“I saw that this wave of Saudi Arabia come with great opportunities, very high offers. But he always says: ‘Wow, I want to continue this story because I owe a lot to them here, and I want to continue this life here’.
“I was impressed when I arrived. The admiration that the players have for him, the employees here, the [backroom staff] – both this one and Klopp’s in the past – the board. He really is a very important figure here. Because of the history he has had here, on the field, right? Showing that in the games, important games.”

Alisson isn’t the only Liverpool star linked with an exit, and he isn’t the only one now expected to stay. Harvey Elliott has seen opportunities limited this term, but the England Under-21 star is determined to stick around and fight for his place.
“I hope that I can push on [next season],” Elliott – who has played less than 200 league minutes this term – told the ECHO. “This is my team, I am committed to them and it’s just a situation that is always going to have a lot of talk. I just need to think about what is best for my future, my career and as much as I want it to be here.
“You never know what is going to happen around the corner. If I had it my way, that would be here, I would play each and every game here and stay here for the rest of my career but it all depends on managers, the people above and as I said you don’t know what could happen but as far as I am aware I am here, here to stay and this is the club I want to be at.
“Hopefully I am still here to be honest. It is the best place to be, the best club to be at and especially having the fans around us at the moment, I don’t think there is a better place to be playing.
“Players go through ups and downs but at the end of the day you have to come out fighting and I think it is within myself to make it happen. So hopefully I can stay here for the rest of my career.”
