‘I’ve purchased two of these, and to say it was a bargain is an understatement’
Amazon shoppers have been snapping up an impressive ‘cracking little’ TV that’s said to be ideal for a second device in the bedroom or for the kids. The Amazon Fire TV 2-Series is now up to £90 off in the retailer’s January sale.
The HD smart TV comes in two screen sizes, with the 32” model currently reduced to £179.99 – from the usual £249.99 – and the 40” model reduced to £209.99 – down from £299.99. Although both sizes boast crisp Dolby Digital Plus audio and HD picture quality, it’s worth noting the 40” model has a higher quality display of 1080p, compared to the 32” model’s 720p.
For those looking for a larger budget-friendly TV with higher picture quality, it’s worth considering this 43” Hisense 4K Ultra HD smart TV, which is currently £200 off at £229. With the Fire TV, you can easily access thousands of films and TV shows for free with ad-supported streaming apps like YouTube, Freevee and Pluto TV, as well as paid streamers including Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video.

The TV can also be used hands-free with the included Alexa Voice Remote, which can be used to navigate content, switch inputs and control your smart home devices with the sound of your voice. The Amazon Fire TV 2-Series has achieved a 4.3-star rating after more than 1,300 reviews, with shoppers hailing it as a ‘cracking little TV’. Many buy it as a secondary device for the bedroom, kitchen or kids’ room.
One happy customer: “This is exactly what I need. Very impressed. So easy to install and effortless. Fabulous picture, excellent sound straight off. Works perfectly and I am delighted. Cannot believe [I] got so much TV for the money.”
Another said: “A cracking little TV. I was a bit sceptical about the performance vs value ratio, but I’m very pleasantly surprised by it overall. As a bedroom TV, it’s definitely more than adequate. In all, [a] great picture, sound quality isn’t bad, apps, etc, are decent, good external connectivity options, Bluetooth connects easily to accessories, and even your mobile can be used as a second remote. Highly recommended.”
A third impressed shopper said: “I’ve purchased two of these, and to say it was a bargain is an understatement. Both of my kids have a TV in their rooms now and it has everything they want to watch on it. The picture and sound quality is fantastic for the price paid. The kids love using the voice option on the remote control. The app selection is great, it has the likes of YouTube, Netflix, Prime, Disney+, iPlayer etc. Overall, a fantastic buy and a bargain price.”
However, some less pleased buyers have pointed out that the Fire TV can be ‘slow’ when changing channels or between apps. For shoppers who prefer to spread the cost of a new TV, Sky has dropped the price of its Sky Glass bundles in its January sale.
The provider has reduced the package – which includes a 4K smart TV, hundreds of TV channels and subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+ – to £29, down from £33.
