An American man visited Manchester for the first time and shared his thoughts on his experience in the northern city – and he was surprised by a number of things

An American man has been left stunned by Manchester, calling it “a hidden gem” after his first visit to the city astonished him with its warm hospitality and vibrant street life.

The social media influencer, K Jordy, who labels himself as a “meer Yankee” regularly shares his British experiences with his substantial online following. Despite living in London for over three years, K Jordy admits his amazement at the unique quirks of British culture— from food and drinks to local slang and sports — in stark contrast with his American roots.

With his TikTok page boasting over 20 million likes and his YouTube channel gathering more than 68,000 subscribers, the London-based YouTuber is known for interviewing locals about their lifestyle in the UK. His followers often remind him that London doesn’t represent the whole of Britain and have encouraged him to venture out to other cities.

Taking this advice, the content creator recently visited Manchester, where his expectations were greatly exceeded. “I could get used to this,” he remarked on a video documenting his trip.

In one of his latest videos, he expressed: “Today I have travelled to the one and only Manchester. I’m going to give you guys my observations – people are so much nicer. Going to coffee shops and people are calling me love. People are stopping in the street and smiling.”

As he roamed through the bustling city centre, not only was he greeted with smiles and affectionate terms, but he also stumbled upon live music and impromptu street dancing. Even more intriguing to the American visitor were the corn in a cup stalls scattered around the town, adding to his list of pleasant surprises.

The traveller, who shared his experiences in a viral video on YouTube and TikTok, was struck by the city’s charm. “It’s such a wholesome little vibe,” he remarked. “I should have come to Manchester earlier.”

He continued, expressing his newfound affection and said: “Manchester you have my heart.” Summing up his trip, K Jordy said: “Northern are nicer than people say they are, more present. It’s a hidden gem.”

The comments section lit up with support, as one user exclaimed: “So happy you’re outside of London.” Another chimed in: “Very happy to see you travel up north mate. People are definitely more warm.”

A third person celebrated the recognition of their hometown: “Yes, finally you’re showing my city and not London! This is the UK.”

Another comment read: “So glad you ventured up north to see how lovely we are up here.” Some even suggested that Liverpool, Newcastle, and York should be next on his travel itinerary.
