If you need guidance which places to travel to check out this autumn a visit to one of the ‘prettiest autumn villages’ in Scotland which is a good place to begin

The prettiest autumn village which is an ideal ‘staycation’ is also home to what many believe to be the UK’s best fish and chip shop.

With summer feeling like a distant memory and the arrival of October greyer skies and colder temperatures become appealing as do cosy locations.

As long as you dress properly the autumnal months can be the best time of the year for a stay-at home break.

And if you need guidance where to check out, a visit to one of the “prettiest autumn villages” is a fine place to begin.

The Daily Record reports Plockton an idyllic coastal village overlooking Loch Carron in Wester Ross. It was previously named the most picturesque autumn village in Scotland by travel experts at estate agents Fine & Country.

While Plockton is downright gorgeous all throughout the year, it is not hard to see why the experts named it as the “prettiest” autumn village in particular. When its trees turn golden and snow dusts the peaks of the surrounding mountains, it has an almost otherworldly feel to it.

Maybe best known amongst Scots as the setting for the classic BBC television series Hamish Macbeth starring Robert Carlyle, Plockton has long been regarded as the “jewel of the Highlands”.

From its secluded bays and coral beaches to the various scenic walking and hiking trails in the area, it is the perfect place to switch off and unwind for a day or two.

It can be easily reached by train from Inverness and makes a fabulous autumn staycation spot. After arriving in the village, you should walk along the bay that curves around it and take a seat on one of the benches that looks out over the water.

Following time breathing in the tranquil views of Loch Carron, you can venture into the heart of village for a spot of shopping. While small, the village is home to a well-stocked general goods store, an art studio, and even a distillery.

The star of the show, though, is undoubtedly The Shores. This beloved local restaurant was previously named the best seaside fish and chip spot in the country.

It has earned rave reviews amongst visitors for its fresh fish and top-quality service.

Elsewhere, the Plockton Inn is a cosy little pub with rooms that is a great place after exploring the rustic countryside nearby. There you can enjoy the local charm of the village and breathtaking scenery which it has to offer. It is also a recommended place to head for a pint at the end of the day.

It regularly hosts live events with talented local musicians where you can properly soak in the friendly and lively atmosphere.
