Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool is still yet to be officially decided – and his team-mate Andy Robertson has made his feelings clear after another stunning performance
Andy Robertson joked with Mohamed Salah on social media after the Egyptian put in yet another star performance for Liverpool as negotiations over a new contract continue.
Salah was the man of the match in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over West Ham on Sunday, scoring once and assisting two more goals to make yet more history. He now has 17 goals and 13 assists in just 18 Premier League games this season for Liverpool.
His brilliant form has helped the Reds take control of the Premier League title race, as well as putting more pressure on the club. Like Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, Salah’s current contract is due to expire at the end of June and his future has provided an unwelcome distraction for Liverpool.
It hasn’t affected his performances of late and after stealing the show at the London Stadium, Salah took a now-trademark dressing room selfie with some of his team-mates. He snapped a picture with fellow goalscorers Alexander-Arnold, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota, prompting a reply from Robertson.
“I’ll make a picture one day,” the left-back joked. Robertson is yet to score for Liverpool in 24 appearances across all competitions, so he might need Salah to stay for another season to make the cut in a selfie.
It has been claimed that both Salah and Van Dijk will sign new two-year deals with Liverpool in the coming weeks to end speculation over their futures. But that hasn’t come to pass yet, with Salah giving an update on the situation after the West Ham win.
“No, we are far away from that,” Salah told Sky Sports when asked if there would be good news soon. “I don’t want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing really [has] moved on but for now I’m focused on the team and hopefully we win the Premier League.”
He added: “I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There is a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again. I am just trying to enjoy the game. At the end of the day I came here for the result and I wanted to do something in the game, but I am almost hungry for more.”
Liverpool are eight points clear at the top of the table, with a game in hand, after Chelsea suffered back-to-back defeats. They host struggling Manchester United next up on the Premier League on January 5 before the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final against Tottenham.
