Liverpool appear to be preparing their first transfer for Arne Slot in the summer, as the Reds look to move ahead of rivals Chelsea and Aston Villa in the race for Stefanos Tzimas

Liverpool have contacted Nurnberg over a summer transfer for Stefanos Tzimas.

The forward has racked up eight goals in 15 Bundesliga 2 appearances this term and has drawn interest from Chelsea, Brighton and Aston Villa. The Greek under-21 international has seen the Reds act as they look to lay the groundwork over a deal, per reports.

Tzimas is currently on loan with Nurnberg from PAOK but the German side are in control of his future as they have the possibility of activating his €18million (£15.2m) buy option. A swift exit looks set to be on the cards for the striker however, with the Bavarian side eyeing an easy profit.

Sporting director Olaf Rebbe admitted a move for Tzimas could be possible come the end of the season. The 46-year-old said: “We won’t give up any top performers in the winter, but with a view to the summer, we are of course already looking at a few options.”

Speaking to German publication BILD, he said: “I try to do my best every day and do my part to ensure a successful season. We’ll see what happens in the summer.

“I want to play in the Premier League at some point. But there is still a lot to do until then, and at the moment I am in the right place at the club for my personal development.”

Tzimas is not the only player to be linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks. Boss Arne Slot has made it clear that he will not comment on rumours however.

“When you said yourself ‘linked with’, I was thinking: ‘Which club is he going to say now?’ But you mean as a club we are linked with Kvaratskhelia,” Slot said in his press conference last week.

“What I make of that is that this is January and I think I said it after the West Ham United game [to journalists], please don’t disappoint me, please come up with all these players and all these clubs that are in the interest of us.

“Or the ones that don’t play a lot for us are going to go somewhere else. That [speculation] is what is happening now. And nine out of 10 times or 99 out of 100 times, at the end of the window it’s been clear that almost all of these stories weren’t true. So what can I comment about it? The rumours keep going for it but no comment from my side.”
