Leroy Sane left the Premier League four years ago but Arsenal and Manchester United are both considering moves to bring back the Bayern Munich winger, who will soon be out of contract
Manchester United and Arsenal are prepared to battle it out for Leroy Sane – whose Bayern Munich future remains unclear.
The German returned to his homeland from Manchester City in 2020 but has fallen down the pecking order at the Allianz Arena with his contract winding down. Sane is keen to remain with Bayern, but could be available for free come the summer.
Michael Olise’s signing has begun to impact on Sane’s playing time and both he and the club are likely to review their options in the coming months, especially with Bayern boasting a number of attacking players on the flanks.
United have a long standing interest in Sane whilst Arsenal kept tabs on him in the summer. Bild is reporting that the two Premier League giants could both pursue the ex-City winger, who has twice won the top flight.
Sane has proven himself in England and was named the PFA Young Player of the Year in his second year under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad. He was hugely effective in the final third, scoring 39 times across in four years with the club.
Landing the 28-year-old on a free would be a huge coup for either Arsenal or the Red Devils. The Gunners are still looking to add more depth to their squad whilst those at Old Trafford are likely to pursue new players with Ruben Amorim coming in to put his stamp on the team.
At Bayern, Sane now finds himself working under Vincent Kompany, who captained him when the pair were on the blue half of Manchester. The Belgian said: “We had an unbelievable time together at Manchester City. When I was at City I was a little bit more than a captain. I won’t be that different now.
“It is a talented team and he is a talented player. To make it really simple, my job is to try to get the most out of Sane and out of every player in the team. From that, I will make no distinction.”
Last month Bayern’s sporting director, Max Eberl, confirmed that talks over a new deal for Sane are ongoing. “Now it’s important that Leroy feels comfortable again and can show what he can do on the pitch again,” he said. “We are in open communication with his agent and as soon as there is a decision, we will announce it.”
