A man and a woman have been arrested after a newborn baby was found dead in a home, police have said.

Emergency services rushed to Chadderton in Oldham, Greater Manchester, this afternoon to a report concerning the welfare of a baby. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the little girl died.

A 41-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Officers remained stationed at the property throughout the afternoon following the incident. Investigations into the death of the baby girl are ongoing. A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called at around 12.56pm today to Nelson Way, Chadderton to a report concerning the welfare of a baby.

“Emergency services attended and despite the best efforts of paramedics, she sadly died. A man (aged 41) and a woman (aged 21) have been arrested on suspicion of child neglect. Enquiries are ongoing.”
