With the Golden Globes now just mere hours away, one famous face fans won’t be seeing this year is Blake Lively, who has made the decision to swerve the ceremony altogether
Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will all be skipping the Golden Globes 2025.
Lively, 37, is reportedly choosing to swerve attending the annual awards show which kicks off on Sunday, January 5, amid her ongoing legal battle with her It Ends With Us costar and director Justin Baldoni. However, it isn’t just Blake who will be missing from the staple of the Hollywood calendar as her husband Ryan Reynolds and his Wolverine and Deadpool co-star Hugh Jackman will also be sitting this year out too.
According to Deadline, Lively, Reynolds and Jackman all made their decisions not to attend the awards ceremony on Sunday well before the It Ends With Us legal battle began, meaning their absence has nothing to do with the ongoing scandal. However, the tense situation between Baldoni and Lively will no doubt have soured the start to the actress’ year, with the ‘hot-button’ subject dominating many industry circles.
As a result of the ongoing legal battle, it’s understood that there isn’t any likelihood of the situation being mentioned at the Globes, with comedian Nikki Glaser, who is set to host the show, already have confirmed she won’t be making any jokes about the situation.
“I think the Blake Lively–Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be,” Glaser, 40, told Yahoo! Entertainment on Thursday, January 2. “I also don’t want to give his name any [weight].”
She added, “I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”
On December 20, Lively lodged an extensive 80-page legal complaint against Baldoni following what has been described as a tense working relationship on the Hollywood film, It Ends With Us, released in August. Part of her complaint accuses him of deliberately trying to “destroy her reputation ” as well as sexual harassment. She alleges that his behaviour resulted in her suffering “severe emotional distress.”
Baldoni has denied the allegations against him. Lively filed a second lawsuit this week and accused Baldoni of causing “severe emotional distress and pain, humiliation and embarrassment”. She also accused him, along with his publicist Jennifer Abel and crisis PR Melissa Nathan, of making her suffer ‘mental pain and anguish’ as well as lost wages’.
Gossip Girl actress Lively has asked for ‘punitive’ and ‘compensatory’ damages and a jury trial.
Baldoni also filed a lawsuit, but against New York Times, who published an article called ‘We Can Bury Anyone’ : Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine. The lengthy article included the claims that Baldoni and his team were trying to create a smear campaign against Lively. The NYT said they “plan to vigorously defend against the lawsuit.”
“We plan to release every single text message between the two of them. We want the truth to be out there,” Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman told NBC News on Thursday. “We want the documents to be out there. We want people to make their determination based on receipts.”
