The Aussie treat box has been criticised for what is included – with Australians saying ‘there’s a lot better’

B&M has brought back a small but rare slice of Australia just in time for Christmas. Shoppers have spotted the treat on shelves recently – but it’s not gone down well with some.

The £5 Aussie Treat Box returns to B&M shelves this month amongst the usual range of selection boxes ahead of December. The pack contains five chocolate bars you wouldn’t normally find in UK shops.

The Milky Top Freddo adds a new flavour to the classic frog-shaped treat whilst a Caramilk-infused Twirl is also included alongside Cadbury’s Milk Chocolate Drops. The box also contains two nut-filled bars – the Peanut Brownie Snickers and the Scorched Peanut Bar.

Whilst the packaging may seem to suggest the box is packed with chocolate, the reality is that there’s just one of each bar inside. Working out at £1 per treat, the box has drawn some criticism.

The find was shared on social media by blogger NewfoodsUK. Hundreds of Facebook users commented on the unique find – but not everyone was pleased.

One said: “Being an Australian here in the UK, there’s a lot better iconic Aussie sweet treats than these. Not a good selection at all!” Another wrote: “Got these last year. There is only one of everything – not two which the box makes it look like.”

Some shared ideas about how the pack could be improved. One pitched: “It’s missing Tim Tams, Violet Crumble and my favourite Cherry Ripe!”

Another asked: “Missing Cherry Ripe and Chokito!” Someone else pointed out: “How are they going to theme this around Australia and not add timtams?”

A few did seem willing to try it though, with one saying: “Let’s go! Need to try these!” Another added: “I loved all of these when I went to oz. Some good memories!”

Some ‘rare’ chocolate imports often find themselves on the shelves at B&M. Recently, shoppers spotted white chocolate Dream bars discounted in the UK due to ‘lack of popularity’, but they are still made in Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.

Other finds previously include flavoured versions of the Freddo, including strawberry and vanilla. Shoppers also snap up the unique Cadbury range, such as the Neapolitan, Top Deck, and Peppermint, which arrive from overseas.
