A British sailor has been found dead on a Greek holiday island.

The 44-year-old, who was found by the crew of a passing boat, was reportedly found with head injuries on the pier of the old port of the island of Spetses.

According to Greek news outlet Star GR, the man’s body is due to be transferred to the city of Piraeus for an autopsy.

Reports suggest that the man was a crew member of a sailboat taking part in the Spetses Classic Yacht Regatta running from June 26 to June 29. He was found to have suffered head injuries, but it has not been determined whether these were from a fatal fall or due to a criminal act.
