Brighton winger Benicio Baker-Boaitey is in advanced talks over a permanent switch to Millwall, who want to make the England Under-20 star their fifth January signing

Millwall are closing in on a deal to bring England Under-20 winger Benicio Baker-Boaitey to The Den.

Baker-Boaitey, 21, made his Premier League debut for the Seagulls under Roberto De Zerbi and spent the first half of the season on loan at Port Vale before being recalled earlier this month.

And Mirror Football understands that Millwall are working hard to try and sign the highly-rated wideman on a permanent basis before Monday’s transfer deadline.

The Lions have been busy in the January window, adding former Republic of Ireland international forward Aaron Connolly, Tristan Crama, Ajay Matthews and Luke Cundle to Alex Neil’s squad.

But there is hope that more can be done before the transfer window shuts and Baker-Boaitey is set to undergo a medical before completing a permanent switch.

Baker-Boaitey was limited to 14 appearances with Port Vale after suffering a pelvic injury.

But he was hailed as a “game changer” by Vale boss Darren Moore when his recall to Brighton was confirmed at the start of the month.

“He leaves the club with nothing but the very best wishes from everybody here,” said Vale boss Darren Moore. “He has showcased wonderful ability to get supporters off their seat and to be a real game changer when on his game.

“He has the attitude to go on and fulfil his potential within the game. I would like to thank Brighton and Hove Albion for entrusting us with his development.”
