Mathys Tel wants to leave Bayern Munich before transfer deadline day and Tottenham stole a march on multiple Premier League rivals by agreeing a £50million deal with the German giants on Thursday

Tottenham have been SNUBBED by in-demand Bayern Munich prospect Mathys Tel.

Spurs had agreed a £50million deal with Bayern to sign the Frenchman, who’s keen to leave Bavaria before Monday’s 11pm deadline. But Tel, 19, doesn’t want to join Ange Postecoglou’s side amid interest from other Premier League clubs.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Aston Villa all remain in contact over the striker’s availability. Bayern’s director of sport, Max Eberl, revealed on Wednesday that rarely in his career has he been contacted by so many clubs over one player.

Tel was handed a rare start in Bayern’s 3-1 win at home to Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday in the Champions League but failed to score, meaning he’s yet to find the back of the net all season. The France under-21 international has played second fiddle to England captain Harry Kane for most of his time in Munich, having joined from Rennes in a deal worth up to £23.8m in 2022.

Reports from Italy claim that Tel is unlikely to join Tottenham, despite holding face-to-face talks over a potential move to north London. The 19-year-old has informed Spurs of his decision, giving United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Villa the opportunity to sign him before transfer window slams shut.

Eberl says that Tel has been angling to leave Bayern since a conversation with club chiefs in December. “We spoke in December and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself,” Eberl told German media after the Champions League fixture. “Now he said he wants to leave.

“We have to think about whether we will do it and what we will do. He said that the playing time wasn’t enough for him and that’s understandable. Nevertheless, we would have liked him to keep fighting. There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany also told reporters: “I have nothing to say about that at the moment. Mathys is our player. We are in close contact with him and his agents. Christoph [Freund] or Max can say more about what happens in the next few hours or days.”

What could change dynamic of Tel’s future is that Villa boss Unai Emery has, according to a new report, personally requested his club enter talks over a move for United want-away Marcus Rashford. The frozen-out forward is keen to leave Old Trafford, with his dream move to Barcelona looking increasingly unlikely.
