Rishi Sunak has repeatedly warned of “French-style” industrial action if Labour wins – but the UK already loses more days to strike action under the Tories

Britain has lost twice as many days to strike action as France under Rishi Sunak – despite the PM’s warnings over “French-style” industrial action if Labour win the election.

The Tories even issued a deeply weird video superimposing a “French-style” stereotypical beret and twirly moustache on Angela Rayner’s face to hammer home the point – although many viewers missed the point and thought they were making her up to look like Super Mario.

In reality, the UK has lost on average over 3 million working days a year to industrial action since Mr Sunak entered No10 in 2022 – twice as many a year as France – costing Britain’s economy £15 billion in lost productivity.

In total since became Prime Minister in October 2022, he has presided over 4.6 million lost days from strike action because of his scorched-earth approach to industrial relations.

If the current trend continued for another term of Conservative Government, Labour’s analysis found the UK would be projected to lose 15 million working days.

The lost output of the last two years could have generated more than £5.6 billion in taxes.

A Labour source said: “Rather than introduce industrial relations fit for a modern economy, where issues can be resolved before they escalate, the Conservatives’ failed approach has led to the worst strikes in decades. It’s time to stop the Tory chaos, turn the page, and start to rebuild with this changed Labour Party.”
