Jodie Marlow, who is best known as @jodiemar1ow on TikTok, shared a breakdown of her household bills in a video online, and it’s safe to say that Brits were left seriously impressed

Many people fancy the idea of relocating overseas.

After all, the climate is more appealing, life appears to be more enjoyable and the food is pretty great too. However, one mum recently shed light on one of the biggest perks of moving abroad.

Jodie Marlow, known as @jodiemar1ow on TikTok, is renowned for sharing her experiences as a mum who’s made the move to Spain, and she recently gave an insight into her bills.

It seems there’s a significant difference in what she shells out to maintain a home. In fact, many people were taken aback by the prices in Spain.

In the video, she clarified that they don’t have any rent or mortgage payments as they own their property outright. She confessed the cost of electricity is also “really good”, as she has recently switched providers.

Jodie exclaimed: “Oh my gosh, amazing. Last month, before I really put the aircon on, was €37 (£30.82). This month I’ve had the aircon on nearly every night for the boys and, I think when I tried to look quickly because it’s not generated fully, it’s around €55 to €60 (around £45.82), which I think is nothing.”

She added: “So, if anyone lives in Spain and pays their own electricity bills, you need to message me. I can’t believe how cheap it’s changed to.

“Water is around €99 (£82.47) every three months, so that’s €33 (£27.49) every month. The house actually runs off a gas bottle. I thought it was really weird at first but, actually, it’s pretty normal in Spain, and a gas bottle costs around €16 (£13.33).”

Jodie revealed that during the sweltering months, people often forgo hot showers, leading to reduced use of their water heater for significant portions of the year. She’s not much for using the gas hob either, opting for an outdoor barbecue and an airfryer instead to whip up most of her meals.

In terms of running costs, a gas bottle can stretch for three months on a good run. Jodie calculates her council tax to be about €21 (£17.49) a month – a figure she considers quite reasonable, and her home insurance comes in around the same price point.

After posting her video online, it amassed hundreds of views and generated a wave of comments from people astonished at the affordability of her living expenses.

One commenter exclaimed: “60 Euros a month! We spend £40 per week for a four-bed house in England.” In response, someone chimed in with: “Oh my god, your electric is so cheap. Ours is so much more!”

Meanwhile, a third also replied: “So cheap. My gas and electric is £250 together, and my council tax is like £180 a month.”
