Your shower needs regular TLC to keep it sparkling and fresh, and there are five incredibly easy and genius ways you can clean it that do not require any scrubbing at all

Our bathrooms get a lot of daily use and as some of the hardest-wearing parts of our homes, they need regular TLC to keep them sparking clean and fresh. In any home, whether you live with flatmates, solo, or with your entire family, your shower is used on a daily basis, and without regularly tackling this cleaning job grime, limescale, and even mould can easily build up.

It is easy for cleaning to get on top of you – we all live busy lives after all. Sometimes you may look up and notice that a serious amount of limescale or mould has built up in your shower, and the fact that looks like it will need a serious deep clean and hours of scrubbing to get rid of it can easily lead to further cleaning procrastination.

However, experts have recommended five incredible shower cleaning life hacks that avoid the need for scrubbing altogether – saving your back and some time. But it’s not effort that you are going to avoid with these hacks, the experts at sustainable cleaning company Myni, explain that overly scrubbing your tiles can also cause permanent damage, which could be seriously expensive to fix.

First up, Myni explains on their blog that a great way to minimise scrubbing time is by combining white vinegar with dishwasher tablets and using this solution on your tiles. You should use one tablet with twice as much vinegar, and mix it together well. Then – using a spray bottle – cover your shower area and let it soak for an hour or so, before wiping down. The acidic properties of the vinegar combined with the cleaning power of the dishwasher tablet will mean stains come away much easier.

Next, if the grout between your tiles is giving you trouble, then the experts recommend the cleaning classic of baking soda and vinegar is the way to go. “To get rid of soap or grout stains on your tiles, just add some water to the baking soda and make a thick paste. Apply this paste generously to your tiles. Add a few drops of vinegar to the paste to clean your tiles even more effectively. The paste will start to bubble. Leave it on for an hour. Wash off the paste completely with cold water,” the experts explain.

If you have ceramic tiles, then the experts say there is only one way to go: bleach and baking soda. Together these powerful cleaning agents turn into a thick paste – you should use twice as much baking soda as you do bleach for this one. Layer the thick paste onto your tiles and let it sit until it’s totally dry. Then use cold water to clean it off – and don’t forget to wear a mask and gloves. A word of warning, however, if the tiles in your bathroom are porcelain, don’t use lots of bleach on them, because you could cause damage.

The fourth no-scrub method the experts recommend is oxygen bleach. However, this is not an eco-friendly cleaning method, and should only be used as a last resort to lift the most stubborn of stains. “Just add three tablespoons of oxygen bleach to a bucket of warm water. Leave this solution on your shower tiles for at least 15 minutes. Wash off the solution with clean, cold water,” they explain.

Finally the cleaning company experts recommend their dedicated bathroom cleaning product as a no-scrubbing option – that’s non-toxic and good for the environment. They sell clever cleaning tablets that you need to add to 750ml of water in a spray bottle, let it dissolve and “Pour the cleaning solution directly onto the stains and let it sit for a few minutes. Rinse all stains with cold water, and your tiles will shine like new.”
