Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau have had a frosty relationship in the past but the two former rivals have now come together to take on Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler
Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau appear to have put their previous feud between them, after they announced ‘The Showdown’ on social media for the first time. The LIV pair will team up against Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler in the matchplay event.
The clash is set to take place at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas on December 17, marking the first head-to-head face-off between representatives from both sides of the PGA Tour-LIV Golf fallout. Koepka and DeChambeau’s relationship has not always been so rosey though.
The difference between the two LIV stars began in 2019 when Koepka criticised DeChambeau’s slow pace of play. Sharing his frustration on the Golf Monthly podcast, he said: “I just don’t understand how it takes a minute and 20 seconds, a minute and 15 to hit a golf ball.
“It’s not that hard. It’s always between two clubs; there’s a miss short, there’s a miss long. It really drives me nuts, especially when it’s a long hitter, because you know you’ve got two other guys or at least one guy that’s hitting before you so you can do all your calculations; you should have your numbers.”
From that point, the duo continued to exchange verbal digs, with Koepka infamously rolling his eyes at DeChambeau after being distracted by the two-time major winner during a 2021 PGA Championship interview. They appeared to then put their differences aside that same year, after helping Team USA win the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits.
In the subsequent summer of, both Koepka and DeChambeau chose to make the switch to the LIV setup, again united the two former foes. Following their personal announcement of The Showdown’, it seems any past animosity between these two major figures in golf has been forgotten.

“It’s official, Brooks and I will be taking on Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy in an 18-hole match on December 17th. This is going to be one for the ages! ” DeChambeau announced via a tweet on Saturday. His teammate Koepka responded, quick to show the pair were firmly pals.
“Did we just become best friends? ” Koepka replied, referencing a synonymous line from the film Step Brothers, starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. The matchplay event has also been well promoted by McIlroy. “You’ve got two guys in Bryson and Brooks that have won majors in the last two years,” he commented at the Irish Open.
“You’ve got me in there who, I haven’t done what those guys have done the last couple of years but I’ve definitely been I feel one of the best players in the world. This is a way to show golf fans worldwide the potential outcomes and possibilities going forward. “I’ve been saying this for a long time. I think golf and golf fans get to see us together more than four times a year.”
