Amazon still rules the roost when it comes to TV streaming but a new rival is giving it a run for its money.

Amazon’s range of Fire TV devices remain some of the most popular ways to tune into content but they have an ever-growing number of rivals from the likes of Sky, Freely, Google and Apple.

One of the biggest competitors to Amazon is, of course, the Roku platform and there are some cheap new tellies coming to the UK that are powered by this hugely popular system.

The latest update comes courtesy of the tech team at Westinghouse with the US company branching out and announcing the release of two budget smart screens that cost as little as £125.99.

That ludicrously low price is for the smaller 24-inch screen – those wanting the bigger 32-inch display will need to pay just £132.99.

These two TVs now go head-to-head with Amazon’s Fire TV 2-series television which is priced at £249.99 (usually discounted to around £179.99).

Thanks to the Roku operating system, owners will be able to tune into a swathe of content from providers such as Disney, Netflix and Apple.

There’s also live TV via a Freeview tuner and plenty of other free things to watch thanks to iPlayer, ITVX, Channel 4, My5 and Roku Channel access.

Other bonus extras include Roku Search which helps find content faster via voice commands and there’s AirPlay built in so you can beam things straight from your iPhone to the big screen.

“We’re proud to partner with Westinghouse to deliver a new range of smart TVs in the U.K.,” said Richard Halton, Country Manager at Roku U.K. “Roku is the #1 selling TV OS in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and is renowned for its simplicity and ease of use. With a huge variety of Roku TV models now on the market, it’s never been easier for British consumers to stream the entertainment they love.”

Of course, many of the features and free content are also available on Amazon’s Fire TVs but if you fancy something different then these latest screens are worth a look.
