Central Cee has made history at the 2025 MOBO Awards, becoming the joint most-decorated rapper alongside Stormzy with seven awards.
The 26-year-old Londoner, real name Oakley Caesar-Su, bagged the best male award for the second consecutive year at Tuesday’s ceremony in Newcastle.
Known for hits like Sprinter featuring Dave and solo single Doja, he released his debut album Can’t Rush Greatness in January 2025. Meanwhile, Ayra Starr became the first African woman to win best international act and the first woman to clinch best African music act in 16 years.
British-Nigerian artist Darkoo took home best female act and song of the year for Favourite Girl featuring Dess Dior. German-born Odeal won best newcomer and best R&B or soul act, while actor and rapper Bashy, 40, scooped best album for Being Poor Is Expensive and best hip hop act.
Mnelia’s My Man, directed by Femi Bello, won video of the year, and Jacob Anderson was awarded best performance in a TV show or film for his role as Louis in Interview With The Vampire. Olympic gold medallist Dame Denise Lewis received the paving the way award, celebrating those who have paved the way for future generations in sport, entertainment and culture.
Ezra Collective, Mercury Prize winners in 2023, were named best jazz act. The best grime act was awarded to Scorcher, while the best drill act was won by Pozer. TSHA took home the award for best electronic dance music act, and the best gospel act went to Annatoria.
Shenseea bagged the best Caribbean music act, and ALT BLK ERA won the best alternative act. The best media personality was won by 90s Baby Show, a comedy podcast exploring the mind of a 90s baby, while Juls was named the best producer.
Vybz Kartel, the Jamaican dancehall deejay, was honoured with the Impact Award, which is given to an artist who has been a pioneer in their genre. The ceremony featured performances from rock duo Nova Twins, British hip hop duo Krept And Konan, and award winners Odeal, Darkoo and Bashy.
Not only did MOBO founder Kanya King provide a powerful speech amid her cancer battle, Vybz Kartel and Spice ended the show with an epic performance of legendary tracks Fever and So Mi Like It.
