Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar and Beyonce were also early winners at the premiere ceremony – which took place ahead of the main 2025 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night
Charli XCX was one of the early winners at the 2025 Grammy Awards – picking up multiple gongs at the opening of the ceremony.
The 32-year-old British star was up for an impressive eight gongs on the night – ranging from Album of the Year to Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical. And the star got off to a strong start at the 2025 ceremony as she scooped multiple gongs at the Grammys’ “premiere ceremony”, which precedes the main event.
Charli was announced as the winner of the Best Dance/Electronic Album for her 2024 Brat album and the Best Dance Pop Recording for her single Von Dutch. Brat also won the Best Recording Package award which was split between the singer and her collaborators Brent David Freaneym, Imogene Strauss and art directors.
Charli’s producer, Finn Keane, accepted the award for Von Dutch on her behalf, according to the BBC, calling the Von Dutch singer an “amazing collaborator”. He added: “She has been making this kind of music for 10 years, but everyone’s just caught up to it.”
It marks the first Grammy wins for Charli – who was previously nominated in 2015 alongside Iggy Azalea for their hit single, Fancy. While eight nominations is impressive, music superstar Beyonce had the most nominations on the night with her name appearing in 11 categories.
The Destiny’s Child icon also got off to a good start – with her song II Most Wanted, a duet with Miley Cyrus, landing the Best Country Duo/Group Performance award ahead of the main ceremony. Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter also had reason to celebrate early as she was honoured with the Best Pop Solo Performance award and coveted Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical award for her single, Espresso.
Kendrick Lamar was another early success for the awards, scooping best rap song, best rap performance and best music video for his track Not Like US. His producer, Mustard, picked the awards on behalf of the musician and declared: “He performed his ass off on that song, didn’t he?”
The 2025 ceremony has been controversial as organisers decided to press on with the awards in Los Angeles despite huge swathes of the city being destroyed by wildfires last month. Fires broke out on 7 January and swept across neighbourhoods – powered by strong winds and a lack of water to combat the flames.
Over 18,000 properties were destroyed or damaged by the flamed, more than 212,000 residents had to be evacuated, and tragically 29 people died as a result of the blazes. It took three weeks for emergency services to contain the fires – with damages estimated to be in the billions.
Grammys CEO Harvey Mason Jr told the audience at the Crypto.com arena that the awards would: “Honour music’s great power to inspire, to heal and to unite… Because of the recent fires that devastated Los Angeles, we’re also going to recognise the resilience of our community and celebrate our first responders and do our very best to lift up this city that we love.”
