A Comic Relief Red Nose Day sketch featuring former Inbetweeners stars Joe Thomas and James Buckley as the warring Gallagher brothers has thrilled fans of the actors and the iconic band
Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day has always been known for quirky sketches, and this year is no exception. As well as a Beyond Paradise and Not Going Out crossover, a People Just Do Nothing and Gladiators mash-up, and a Strictly Come Dancing special, the event on Friday night also included a special musical moment.
Former Inbetweeners stars Joe Thomas and James Buckley reunited to play Liam and Noel Gallagher in a spoof documentary entitled Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie, a parody charting the warring brothers’ rise from Manchester teens to global rock stardom. Joining them were Hugh Dennis, Martin Lewis, Micky Flanagan, Vernon Kay, Mark Silcox, Tasha Ghouri, Melvin Odoom, Roisin Conaty, and Piers Morgan, all stepping into memorable roles from the band’s legendary rise to stardom.
The short spoof showed the two brothers, as played by Joe and James, deciding to reunite for the money and then arguing even before they started rehearsing.
Fans were quick to share their reactions to the sketch. “Can’t wait to see Liam’s reaction to this,” wrote one viewer, while another simply said: “This is horrendous.” “Make it stop!” screamed another, while a fourth added: “What fresh hell is this I’m off to bed.”
“That Oasis sketch on #ComicRelief might just be the worst thing I have ever seen,” another penned as one unimpressed viewer added: “I knew this Oasis sketch would be terrible when it was announced, and now I know it’s just as terrible, if not more.”
Before it aired, James spoke about filming the documentary. He said: “I had such a fun time with Joe, making this sketch for Comic Relief, and was honoured to be asked to be a part of it. And, of course, being a huge Oasis fan, getting to be Liam for the day was a dream come true.”
Joe added: “I grew up watching Comic Relief and the big sketch was always a highlight of the night. So it’s both thrilling and nerve wracking to be a part of it.”
