Dr Alex Foo from Aria Dental has said that there is one time of day during which you should never eat, due to the impact it can have on your teeth

One dentist has warned against eating during a specific two-hour window in the afternoon due to its potential impact on your teeth.

Maintaining good oral hygiene through regular brushing and flossing is crucial, but avoiding food for two hours post-lunch can also contribute to stronger, healthier teeth, says award-winning dentist Dr Alex Foo from Aria Dental.

As reports the Express, Dr Foo advises: “Allowing your saliva to naturally clean and remineralise your teeth for at least two hours after a meal can greatly reduce the risk of cavities and enamel erosion.”

He explains that saliva tends to be more acidic and flows slower in the morning. However, post-lunch, the pH of your saliva increases, making it more effective at protecting your teeth by helping to remineralise enamel.

The importance of a nutritious lunch is also emphasised by Dr Foo, who says: “What you eat at midday can impact the quality of your saliva for the rest of the afternoon.”

Opting for a salad or other healthy choices can promote better oral health. Using a bit of xylitol after lunch can also stimulate beneficial saliva production.

To further safeguard your teeth, Dr Foo recommends refraining from snacking or consuming beverages other than water during the two-hour window following lunch. This gives your saliva ample time to clean your teeth and protect them from decay.
