A TikTok home cleaning expert reckons her homemade solution will shift baked-in grime from every oven, even when the dirt has built up when it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time
A household expert has come to the rescue and created a DIY oven cleaner using items you have at home.
The TikTok user is seen using a combination of ingredients that most people would have in their store cupboards. And she said no elbow grease or scrubbing is required to shift baked-in grime.
The user @mama_milia_ reckons her homemade solution will shift dirt that’s built up when the oven hasn’t been cleaned for a long time. She starts by taking some baking soda and adding further ingredients.
She is seen combining 1 cup of baking soda with 1/3 of a cup of dish soap before she mixes the ingredients in a bowl. She then instructs viewers to “apply to your oven and leave for 30 mins”.
The home cleaner adds: “This mix does all the hard work of breaking down tough grease. Use a scraper blade to cut through on burnt marks easily.”
She is later seen scraping inside the oven and adds: “The scraper blade works inside your oven too!” A image of the inside of her gleaming oven then follows after she completed the cleaning task.
Reactions to her hack varied, from professionals who agreed with her, to doubters who said the oven was not clean. One response said: “As a professional cleaner of 25 years this is my hack as well.” Another person said: “I had baking soda everywhere. It was such a pain to clean.”
But one person was not impressed saying: “as a professional oven cleaner I can tell you the amount of times i’ve had to clean up the remains of this because it does not work on dirty ovens. this oven is lightly soiled.”
In another hack by TikTok user Mac, posting under @healthylittlepeach, the Mirror told how her homemade oven cleaner, attracted 354,000 followers. She confessed: “I’m not going to lie to you all. I’m definitely the type of girl who cleans her oven once a year but when I clean it I’ve got to clean it.”
She then disclosed her chemical-free concoction, consisting of half a cup of washing up liquid, one and a half cups of baking soda, and three quarters of a cup of white vinegar. For those eco-conscious people, opting for a natural washing up liquid can make this solution entirely green. When mixed, these ingredients form a potent white paste that can transform grimy oven racks.
Mac revealed his oven-cleaning secrets, saying: “I remove the oven rack and add it to a hot tub of water. I soak that with some washing up liquid, some laundry detergent and some baking soda, then let it sit. While the racks are in soak you can apply the paste to the interior of the oven and that can be left to sit for two hours.”
