An ‘everything’ shower is where we do, well, everything in one fell swoop. But a doctor has revealed the exact steps we should be taking to ensure we’re getting the most out of our shower experience…

An ‘everything’ shower is not your average rinse; it’s a full-on pamper session where you wash your face, hair, and if you choose, remove body hair. It’s a luxurious affair that most indulge in once or twice a week due to the time it consumes.

Now, a doctor has explained how to maximise this indulgent experience while keeping squeaky clean.

Dr Nicole James, a cosmetic medical expert, took to Threads to dish out her top tips for an ‘everything’ shower. She advised: “Here’s my advice to get the most out of your everything shower.”

A key part of this comprehensive cleanse is hair washing, and Dr James emphasised: “Rinse your hair thoroughly. Residual conditioner can clog pores, leading to bacne. Rinse thoroughly to ensure your skin stays clear and clean.”

She then moved on to the importance of exfoliation, suggesting the use of a mitt or a glycolic/retinol body wash. However, she cautioned that retinol should be introduced gradually, especially on facial skin, due to its potency.

Dr James elaborated on the benefits of exfoliation: “Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, helps fade hyperpigmentation, smooths strawberry legs, and reduces ingrown hairs. Glycolic and retinol promote skin cell turnover for even better results.”

After getting thoroughly cleaned, it’s time to lock in all the goodness you’ve done to your complexion with a top-notch moisturiser. Dr James advises applying to damp skin, recommending shea butter to encapsulate hydration and reinforce the skin’s barrier for sustained moisture.

And it doesn’t stop there; post-moisturising, Dr James suggests grabbing some body oil. She penned: “Body oil seals in moisture and adds a radiant glow, helping to keep your skin smooth and soft all day long.”

Social media users are totally onboard with the skincare tips, showering praise on the post. One user chimed in: “Thank you! This is excellent advice.”

Someone else expressed their personal validation, saying: “Omg I’m so proud of me this is my exact routine.” Meanwhile, another individual recounted: “Reading this as my friend is getting off the phone to take a shower. I read it to her and she was interested enough to want me to send it to her!”
