A man who was tricked into stopping for a fake police car after being involved in a collision on the M40 was attacked on the side of the road before being robbed

A driver has suffered a broken jaw and eye socket after he was robbed when pulled over by what he thought was the police.

Unfortunately, when the man stopped for the ‘police car’ it became apparent that it was in fact a vehicle full of robbers.

The victim, a man in his thirties, was driving southbound along the M40 between High Wycombe and Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire when another car collided with his.

He was then instructed to pull over by another vehicle displaying blue lights, with the man immediately pulling off of the motorway and stopping at a layby on the A355.

When he stopped his car, the man was pulled from his car by a group of men, who then went on to assault him, causing injuries which required hospital treatment.

In the horrendous robbery, which happened at about 9.15pm last Sunday, his phone, wallet and keys were all stolen.

The men who took part in the attack are believed to have arrived in a red Nissan and a dark coloured Volvo.

Investigating officer Pc Mollie Dugmore, based at Aylesbury police station, said:

“Impersonating a police officer is an offence that we will not tolerate, and we are appealing for information following this incident.

“We are asking anyone with information to please call 101 quoting reference 43240506514.

“Additionally we ask anyone with mobile phone, CCTV or dash-cam footage from the M40 or the surrounding areas at around 9.10pm to get in touch with the force in case it has captured something which may assist this investigation.

“If you do not wish to speak to police you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
