Brits will be bracing for low temperatures as winter approaches and Dunelm is selling a budget-friendly way to keep warm for less

With cold weather on the horizon, it can be a battle to decide if now is too soon to turn the heating or if you can manage just a little longer. But as energy bills are expected to increase from October, more people be inclined to keep their heating off.

Ahead of Ofgem’s upcoming price cap hike, Brits are on the lookout for cost-effective alternatives to stay warm at home. Thankfully Dunelm has a compact solution that costs mere pennies to use.

Its 650W 5 Fin Oil Filled Radiator is currently on offer for £25 and shoppers say it can warm up a room fast without needing to turn the heating on. Dunelm’s mini Oil Filled Radiator comes with thermostatic controls and has built up hundreds of five star reviews.

Lots of customers have claimed the appliance has made a real difference in the fight against the cold weather and energy bills. A major selling point for people has been Dunelm’s claim that the radiator costs just under 19p to run for an hour – based on current energy tariffs.

This would be plenty of time to warm up a room and much less expensive than switching your home heating system on. In one five-star review, a shopper said: “This looks such a small unit, you wonder how good it will be – no need to worry! The heat output in an average bedroom, play room, snug or home office is brilliant.”

Another said the small but powerful unit “really throws out warmth”. They added that the heater helps to “take the edge off” during chilly winter mornings. A third wrote: “Such an efficient heater for its size. Great extra source of heat and Smart Meter efficient too!” Vicky added: “Light weight great for a small room heats up very quickly easy to move with handle.”

As well as heating the room it is in, one savvy shopper has doubled up what they used the heater for, sharing: “I bought this because of it’s small size for the winter months to go under my indoor clothes airer. It does a brilliant job and is just the right size to make a big difference to drying times.”

However, not everyone was impressed with the unit. One reviewer claimed it “works well but only if you’re sitting next to it”, whilst another suggested it “could do with a longer plug”.

Another wrote: “Mine won’t warm up even the smallest box room. It may, depending on the outside temperature, stop it dropping below zero. It might help in a greenhouse in spring, but I cant see where else it would help.”

Larger options are available, but cost a little more to run per hour on average. One included this £28 Convector Heater with an average cost of 58p per hour.

Elsewhere, B&Q is selling a Daewoo Oil Filled Portable Radiator for £38.99. You can also get Argos’ Challenge 1kW Oil Filled Radiator for £40. But compared to these two options, Dunelm’s is still the cheapest at £25. Amazon is also selling a Warmlit Oil Filled Radiator with Adjustable Thermostat for £28.99.
