Budget airline easyJet is adding a new destination to its offerings this month, which boasts ‘pristine’ beaches, crystal clear waters – and is warmer than the Canary Islands

In desperate need of some vitamin D? easyJet has just dropped a brand new route to a destination that’s a sizzling 25C during this time of the year. Often touted as a ‘cheaper Caribbean’, Cape Verde (Cabo Verde) is an archipelago located off the west coast of Africa. Made up of 10 volcanic islands, the nation started attracting tourists in the 1970s, but has only recently become a huge hit for Brits.

Renowned for its ‘pristine’ beaches, crystal clear waters, and consistently great weather – Cape Verde is an ideal destination for those wanting a fly and flop holiday. However, for those wanting a bit more action, Sal, one of the main islands, is filled with culture and adventure.

Visitors can meander through the colourful cobbled towns in the south and indulge in local cuisine, or hike up Espargos – the island’s highest peak. You can try your hand at kitesurfing, take an off-road safari to the salt lake or even stargaze at night on the beachfront. Whatever your interests, you’ll easily be able to keep yourself entertained for a week or two.

Starting on March 31, 2025 – easyJet will begin flying directly from London Gatwick to Sal every Monday, Wednesday and Friday throughout the summer season. Flights will take around six hours and five minutes, but is worth the wait for those wanting to top up their tan.

That’s because Cape Verde is one of the best destinations for guaranteed sunshine during Spring time. Temperatures will reach a sizzling 25C and will only drop to 19C at night – making it warmer than the Canary Islands. Even the sea keeps an average temperature of 22C, meaning you have no excuses to have a dip; there’s not usually any rain in March either, so you can keep your brolly at home.

In an online statement, Natasha Marson of easyJet holidays said the travel giant was ‘thrilled’ to be offering Cape Verde as a new destination to its customers. Sal is a fantastic island with so much to offer, including year-round sunshine, so we’re confident it’s going to be a huge success with our travel agent partners and their customers,” she added. “We have a fantastic range of hotels on offer, so whether it’s a family with young children, or a couple looking for a romantic getaway, we’re delighted to offer something for everyone.”

Direct flights to Sal from a slew of major UK airports are already offered by other airlines such as TUI. This includes Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol. If you’re flexible with dates, you can grab return flights in March for as little as £200.
