Emma Louise Connolly has praised the REN Overnight Balm for giving her a ‘whole new face’ after applying it each night and its perfect for tackling dry, sensitive winter skin
The winter weather is notorious for wreaking havoc on our skin. What once was soft, hydrated and smooth is now rough, sensitive and dry thanks to a combination of freezing temperatures, low humidity and icy winds, all of which can damage your skin barrier.
Thankfully it seems Emma Louise Connolly has come to our skin’s rescue, as the model shares her must-have skincare product that leaves her with “a whole new face” in the morning. She shared her love for the REN Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm , £45, on Instagram, saying: “I literally douse myself in this every night and wake up with what feels like a whole new face.”

Emma, who recently announced she was pregnant with her second child with husband and former Made in Chelsea star Oliver Proudlock, was also a big fan of the balm’s consistency. She said: “The balm-like texture is soothing to apply and acts as a protective moisture shield while you sleep. Protecting you from the freezing weather and indoor heating which can dry out your skin.”
The REN Recovery Balm is definitely a great choice for skin that’s feeling a little worse for wear this winter, as it’s packed with hydrating, nourishing ingredients that’ll soothe your skin. It contains lipids from olive, almond, borage and linseed oils to hydrate your skin, whilst jojoba and sunflower seed oils help to repair and protect your skin barrier.
Beta Glucan is also one of the key ingredients, which helps to soothe and cool sensitive skin, alleviating any signs of dryness or rough patches, leaving your skin looking more even. Designed to be used overnight, the REN Recovery Balm sinks into your skin while you sleep, which is when your skin’s natural regenerative process takes place.
You can pick up the REN Recovery Balm at LookFantastic in either a 15ml tub (£20) or a 30ml tub (£45). Over at Marks & Spencer , where Emma picked up her own jar, the 30ml tub is £44.
LookFantastic shoppers have been singing its praises too, with one saying: “This a lovely oily balm which is really rich, and nourishing and helps repair the skin barrier. It’s kind of thick and gloopy so you can put too much on if you’re not careful. A little goes a long way and it melts into the skin beautifully. I use this overnight and I wake up the next day with lovely soft skin.”
Another added: “I love this balm for giving an extra boost to your skin overnight. A little goes a long way. It does leave a slight residue but by morning your skin feels nourished and refreshed. It loses a star for the smell.”
M&S shoppers were similarly delighted, with one adding: “Amazing product. I have sensitive skin and a lot of other products are irritating but applying this at night, I wake up with great skin every time. It lasts a long time as a little goes a long way. Definitely worth the money.”
Others were less taken with the scent, writing: “Great texture but the smell not to my personal taste – unscented one perhaps or alternative scent?”
If you’re also not a huge fan of the REN Recovery Balm’s scent, Wonderbalm is a fantastic alternative. Setting you back £29 for a huge 50ml jar, a little will go a long way so it’ll last you a while. As well as containing olive oil, shea butter, candelilla wax, orange peel oil and vegetable oil to moisturise, protect and promote a natural glow, it is also a multi-purpose balm that’s handy to have around.
You can use it as a skin moisturiser, natural first aid kit for cuts, burns and scrapes, hair mask for conditioning, lip balm, after shave balm, hand cream, cuticle moisturiser. It also acts as a makeup primer, makeup remover, eye cream, hydrating skin mask or as tattoo aftercare – definitely a wonder balm!
