A man has been hailed for teaching his ‘entitled’ neighbour a lesson after she kept stealing his Wi-Fi to upload her adult videos on to the internet – but his revenge put a stop to it
A man has been hailed a hero for his clever retaliation against a neighbour who was nicking his Wi-Fi to upload her X-rated videos online. He shared how he’d moved into a flat while his house was getting a makeover, only to find his internet crawling at snail’s pace during certain hours.
After speaking with his broadband provider, he came to learn a neighbour had been freeloading off his Wi-Fi. Taking to Reddit, he wrote: “I noticed my video and download speeds had been reduced to a crawl, and that my ping time was in the low to mid triple-digit range. Several calls and a single service visit later, I found out that at least one of my neighbours had tapped into my WiFi.
“I changed the name of my router to BADGE357 and changed the password to a randomised character string of maximum length. My net speed went back to normal, and my ping time came back down to the low to mid double-digit range.”
Later, when he popped into the main office to sort his rent, a neighbour cornered him, moaning about “cops shutting down her internet connection”. When quizzed about why she thought that, she blurted out that the cop had left his badge number.
He added: “When I asked why they would shut her down, she said she was running an adult webcam service – completely legal, but somewhat explicit. What someone does to make money is no concern of mine, as long as they do not steal from me in the process.
“I told her that my service was just fine, so she started the whole bat-the-eyes and wiggle-the-tush routine and suggested in a real sweet, seductive voice that I could allow her to tap into my service in exchange for favours (nudge-nudge, wink-wink, say-no-more! ).’Sure,’ I said. ‘My router is BADGE357, and my password is… ‘It was at this point when the penny dropped and she started shouting at him for “ruining her business”.
Happy to have taught her a lesson, he walked away with a smile on his face. He added: “I think she eventually got her own service, because I never heard from her again, although the cold, icy looks she gave me as we passed in the parking lot were somewhat amusing. ”
Commenting on his post, one user said: “That’s good. You really had her going thinking you were going to give her free Wi-Fi. “Another user added: “If she’s any good at what she does she can earn the monthly cable bill in ten minutes. No need to steal it. ” A third user said: “She wasn’t stealing anything. You were offering free service to the neighbourhood by leaving it wide open.”.
