Some Freeview users are finally getting a much-needed content boost.

Freeview continues to top the charts when it comes to watching telly without paying a subscription. This popular platform offers easy access to a vast array of live and on-demand content and, as long as you have a compatible device in your home, everything is totally free to watch.

It’s clearly enticing but Freeview does have its drawbacks with services such as Sky offering more things to tune into along with easy one-touch access and full integration with apps such as Netflix, DIsney+ and more.

Luckily, Freeview is now fighting back with one set-top box manufacturer confirming an essential upgrade that will bring more content to homes.

The team at Manhattan originally launched their new T4 range of gadgets last year and they are very similar to boxes such as Sky Q. Owners can record multiple shows at once, pause live TV, scroll through interactive telly guides and see what’s on now and next. There’s even a neat sleep mode which uses less energy when the box isn’t being used.

Manhattan’s boxes have always offered access to live and on-demand content, but the company has now confirmed that it has added the much-loved YouTube app as well.

All Sky devices – such as Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream – have long had the YouTube service pre-installed, which makes it easy to watch endless hours of content for free.

Now, those with a T4 and T4•R box under their TV will get that same experience. Manhattan says it has even placed it right at the top of the home screen for easy access.

“That’s right – YouTube has arrived on the T4 range in our v2 update, and you’ll find it exactly where it should be – on our Top Apps row,” the company said in an udate.

“The world’s biggest video platform is now seamlessly integrated into your Manhattan experience, bringing unlimited entertainment into your living room.”

Another bonus is being able to instantly share videos from the YouTube app on your phone or tablet right to your TV without any fuss. Just tap the TV icon when you find something to watch, select your T4 or T4•R and your box will power on and start playing.

To get this update, just make sure your device has the latest v2 software installed.

This is a nice update from Manhattan that will clearly be liked by customers. According to recent Ofcom data, YouTube has become an essential part of British entertainment, with a staggering 9 in 10 of us using the service regularly.

Freeview might now be catching up with Sky but the premium telly firm isn’t sitting still. The company has just confirmed the launch if new Glass TVs which offer improved visuals and much better sound.
