Dr Michael Mosley died last month at the age of 67 and now the BBC is set to honour the late TV doctor with a dedicated day when presenters and audiences will be encouraged to do “just one thing” to improve their wellbeing.

TV personality and medical expert, Dr. Michael Mosley, is set to be commemorated across BBC radio and TV with a special day dedicated to promoting wellbeing. The broadcaster and columnist tragically passed away last month at the age of 67 due to natural causes while on holiday in Symi, Greece.

In honour of his memory, the BBC will host ‘Just One Thing Day’ on July 12, inspired by his popular BBC Radio 4 podcast where he shared tips for improving health. The day will embody Mosley’s philosophy of “encouraging healthy habits by introducing easy routines or simple swaps into daily life to improve health and wellbeing”, according to the BBC.

BBC Radio 4 will spearhead the day’s activities, starting with the Today show, which will feature individuals who have transformed their lives using Mosley’s advice. Later, Woman’s Hour presenter Anita Rani will discuss the impact the TV doctor has had on her life, particularly highlighting the benefits of exercise.

The Food Programme will revisit past ‘Just One Thing’ topics, such as the advantages of consuming oily fish and turmeric, while Front Row will celebrate the calming effects of listening to music or playing an instrument. Elsewhere on the BBC, Radio 2’s Tina Daheley and 6 Music’s Craig Charles will each commit to one thing to enhance their own wellbeing, and BBC Radio 1 will also acknowledge the day.

TV favourites Morning Live and The One Show are set to pay tribute to the late Michael Mosley, who was a familiar face on both programmes. BBC Radio 4’s Mohit Bakaya praised Mosley’s influential work: “Michael’s broadcasting changed people’s lives. His Radio 4 podcast inspired so many to take up small, everyday things to improve their health and well-being.”, reports Wales Online.

Bakaya also announced a special day of remembrance: “So we thought it would be fitting to dedicate a day to the impact he had on people’s lives and celebrate his legacy within broadcasting and beyond. He was a hugely well-liked and widely admired colleague within radio and TV, so it is no surprise that so many programmes across the BBC have been keen to share their support for Michael as part of Just One Thing Day.”

He further encouraged public participation: “I hope audiences will be similarly inspired to join us to do ‘Just One Thing’ in memory of Michael.”

Mosley, renowned for bringing the 5:2 diet into the limelight through his book ‘The Fast Diet’, was known for pushing his body to the limit in the name of health and science. Initially training as a doctor in London, he later ventured into media, making a name for himself as a presenter, documentary filmmaker, author, and columnist.

His career highlights include presenting various science shows and documentaries, such as the BBC series ‘Trust Me, I’m A Doctor’, which delved into healthcare in Britain, and hosting the BBC Radio 4 podcast ‘Just One Thing’.

The BBC will celebrate Just One Thing Day on Friday July 12, honouring Mosley’s significant contributions.
