Topshop shared a slew of cryptic posts on their Instagram, teasing a potential high street return and the launch of a new site so here’s everything you can expect from the return of the major fashion brand

You may have shed a tear when it was announced that Topshop stores in the UK would be closing down. You might have rushed to browse the racks of the Big Topshop on Oxford Street one last time before saying farewell for what was believed to be forever, but your prayers have been answered – Topshop is making an iconic comeback.

Of course, Topshop never really left. You could still buy some staples online through ASOS but we can all admit that it just wasn’t the same. And it seems those in charge of the high street store had the same idea. Visiting the topshop.com site, you’ll find a waiting screen with the words: “Coming soon”, anticipating the return of their beloved website.

Taking to a their Instagram account – which has a bio that reads “We Missed You Too” – Topshop shared three exciting posts announcing their long awaited return. The first video showed two models posing on a rooftop, with an enlarged ‘TOPSHOP’ sign towering behind them. The screen then goes black and the words: “We Missed You Too” are typed out. They added a cryptic caption across the three uploads which read: “WE’VE BEEN LISTENING.”

In the comments, fashion fans have gone wild, sharing their excitement over the potential return, with one writing: “What in the Topshop is going on?” and another chimed in: “Millennials everywhere are screaming, crying and throwing up. I’m one of them.” A third typed: “Shut the front door!!! I fear Gen Z aren’t going to understand what this means to us millennials.”

For those in the know, this probably isn’t much of a surprise. Topshop teased a return back earlier this month with a slew of posts accompanied by another cryptic caption: “Watch this space.” Each post featured the same clip of a series of pink-lettering slogans for Topshop and Topman on mirrors, one of which read: “Your era, your Topshop.”

Following this, two more clips were posted saying the unknown project will start with conceptual artist Russ Jones. Writing on Instagram, the artist said: “I’m normally shy about collaborations. This upcoming project felt different.

“Championed by a titan of the retail industry,” he added. “With a brand that will always be iconic. I’m partnering with one of the most iconic British brands to ever grace our high street. Growing up, I couldn’t afford to shop here. Now, we’re working together.”

This news came after ASOS sold a 75% stake in Topshop in September 2024 to Danish fashion group Heartlands, with the new owners hinting at a return to the brick-and-mortar stores. More is yet to be confirmed, but the good news is, ASOS chief executive José Antonio Ramos Calamonte previously stated that he would “not rule out any option to grow Topshop, and if that includes a physical presence, then we will not ignore it.”

There have also been major updates within the Topshop team. Michelle Wilson was appointed managing director of Topshop and Topman in February and the team have welcomed founder of sneaker resale brand The Edit Ldn, Moses Rashid, as their marketing director.

In a LinkedIn post, Rashid said: “I’m pleased to announce I have joined Topshop and Topman as global marketing director. Topshop was an institution for many of us, it was known for being innovative, rebellious and inspirational, so to be afforded this opportunity is truly exciting.”

During its prime, Topshop had 70 UK stores, including a flagship site on London’s Oxford Street. The fashion chain fell into administration in 2020 as part of the collapse of Sir Philip Green’s Arcadia empire. It was then relaunched selling online only the following year when it was bought by ASOS for £265million.
