What is the Cheltenham Festival?
The Cheltenham Festival is one of the biggest events in the National Hunt calendar, and has been previously referred to as “the greatest show on turf”.
The annual festival takes place at Prestbury Park in Gloucestershire, and this year, more than 275,000 race-goers are expected to attend.
It includes the famous Gold Cup race on its final day, with more than £600,000 in prize money available for this race alone.
When are the dates of the 2025 Cheltenham Festival?
This year’s event will take place from Tuesday, March 11 to Friday, March 14, with a total of 28 races taking place over the four days.
The opening day is referred to as Champion Day and features the prestigious Champion Hurdle.
Ladies Day – otherwise known as Style Wednesday – takes place on Wednesday, March 12 and features the Champion Chase.
St Patrick’s Thursday takes place on the third day, and the feature race is the Stayers’ Hurdle.
The final day of the Cheltenham Festival is commonly referred to as Gold Cup Day because it includes the headline Gold Cup race.
Seven races will feature on each day of the meeting, with the first scheduled to take place every day at 1.20pm and feature races from 4pm. Final races are set to take place at 5.20pm each day.

Who are the horses to look out for at this year’s Cheltenham Festival?
If Galopin Des Champs wins the Cheltenham Gold Cup for the third time on the final day, he will become the fifth horse to achieve such a feat, following Golden Miller, Cottage Rake, Arkle and Best Mate.
His trainer, Willie Mullins, has trained a remarkable 103 Cheltenham Festival winners, and he will send an incredible battalion of equine talent across the Irish Sea.
There is a growing feeling that the Brits can enjoy a resurgence this year. Constitution Hill will fly the flag in the Champion Hurdle and attempt to regain his crown in a race he won in 2023.
Dan Skelton – currently the leading British trainer – also has a formidable team, which includes The New Lion, Protektorat and L’Eau Du Sud.
