A Tap Air flight from Lisbon to London has been diverted to Porto because of “smoke on board” with Portuguese authorities saying crew and passengers are in need of urgent medical assistance
A Lisbon to London plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Porto because of “smoke on board.”
The alert was sounded this afternoon around 4.45pm with emergency services rushing to the Tap Air plane after it landed. Authorities said that there were 194 passengers on the plane along with crew who were in need of help.
Portuguese Civil Protection sources told respected Portuguese daily Correio da Manha: “There are 194 passengers on board and crew and passengers are in need of urgent medical assistance.”
There are 57 emergency personnel as well as 15 vehicles on the runway by the TAP plane that landed just over an hour ago. The emergency responders include police, firefighters and Red Cross officials as well as paramedics.
Other planes had to wait in the air for permission to land so the aircraft at the centre of the drama could make an emergency landing. Flight TP1356 left Lisbon at 3.46pm local time for London’s Heathrow Airport before the diversion to Porto. It landed in Porto around 5pm local time.
Local reports said that two people suffered injuries from smoke inhalation and were hospitalized and four other passengers received assistance near the plane.
