Jessica Freitas, from Brazil, was humiliated after she was kicked out of her gym because her outfit was too revealing. She posted a video of her outfit online which prompted the gym to call her back
A fitness influencer has slammed her gym after she was booted out for wearing “embarrassingly” skimpy clothes.
Jessica Freitas, from Brazil, said she was in the gym for a matter of minutes before she was confronted by a worker over her outfit. The influencer, who boasts 180,000 followers on Instagram, was left stunned after the worker told her it “revealed too much”. The 33-year-old, who was dressed in tight pink shorts and a black sports top, said she was wearing exactly the same as other gym-goers.
She believes she is being discriminated against and claimed other ladies “weren’t subjected to the same restrictions”. Jessica said the workers appeared to be “on the lookout for any little thing”, making her feel “watched and pressured”. She said: “It’s like they were waiting for me to do something that goes against the rules.”
She further stressed that she wasn’t recording any videos or causing discomfort to other gym users at the time. The influencer, who visited the gym in her home city of São Paulo, said the incident has “damaged” her image. Speaking about being kicked out, she said: “I wasn’t naked or anything like that. There were other girls there training in shorts and bra tops like me and they weren’t told to leave.”
Jessica slammed the gym workers as “people from the last century” and “malicious, false moralists”. She compared the situation to a woman being kicked off a beach for wearing a bikini. The influencer added: “This incident has damaged my image. It’s not like I was looking to show off or provoke anyone.” She shared a defiant post for her 180,000 Instagram fans on 27 October.
Jessica posed in her gym attire and accompanied the video with the Eminem song Mockingbird. The post received more than 400 likes. She showed off her curves in her “controversial” outfit with the message: “Complain all you want, it doesn’t pay my bills.” On October 28, the influencer said she received a call from the gym manager following the backlash. She explained that they managed to “resolve the matter amicably”. As a result, Freitas said will “happily return” to the gym again.
Earlier this year, a woman was kicked off her flight after airline staff said it went against its dress code policy. Eve J Marie was wearing a revealing leopard print top which showed off some of her cleavage. She was travelling from Texas to Oklahoma when she claims flight attendants approached her and asked her to step off the plane. “When they threatened to remove me off the plane if I didn’t have a change of clothes.
“I felt completely humiliated, embarrassed and highly offended,” she said. “I didn’t have anything to change into so that same flight attendant gave me her work sweater to place on top of my chest. In the end, I was forced to sit on the plane in front of all the other passengers with her work sweater across my chest. This attendant advised me to contact corporate when I land.”
The traveller said the commotion happened in front of her child. She made suggestions on how the airline could prevent the incident from happening again. Eve added: “I was completely upset and embarrassed at how I was treated. Nobody could tell me what exactly their ‘dress code policy’ was. I called corporate and they apologised and awarded me $100 (£78) flight credit. They also wanted me to send in a documented email so they can investigate more, but I have not done that yet.
“In the end, $100 ( £77 ) credit isn’t enough for the humiliation and discrimination I received on that flight. This all happened in front of my child. I was completely singled out for a policy none of the employees could explain. I would like better diversification training, a clear and fair dress code policy that is the same across all SWA flights, a public apology, and those responsible held accountable.”
