The Foreign Office has issued a warning for UK tourists heading to 18 countries including popular holiday destinations such as Egypt, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Morocco

UK travellers have been hit with an important alert from the Foreign Office, warning those heading to 18 different countries, including holiday hotspots like Egypt, Tunisia, UAE and Morocco.

The update on travel advice issued on Sunday cited ‘ongoing hostilities’ between Israel and Lebanon as a concern. The Foreign Office urges vigilance: “Ongoing hostilities between Israel and Lebanon could escalate quickly and pose risks for the wider region. Monitor this travel advice and other media as the situation is changing fast. Follow and contact FCDO travel on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. In a separate note, Brits in Lebanon are being advised by the UK to make their exit via available commercial flights at the earliest opportunity. Speaking to the BBC on Sunday, Government minister Pat McFadden expressed the grave nature of the circumstances: “This is a very serious situation right now.” “Our advice for some time now to British citizens in Lebanon is to leave now. There are commercial flights available, the Foreign Office is working with commercial airlines to make sure more are available,” reports Manchester Evening News.

The UK government has issued a stark warning to Brits in Lebanon, with the Foreign Secretary stating: “We will plan for every contingency but it is really important given the seriousness of the situation that British people in the area make what arrangements they can to leave now.”

He also called on British nationals still in the region to register with the Foreign Office and reiterated calls for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, saying “no matter how difficult that sounds in the light of what’s happened in recent days”. The alert comes after Hezbollah confirmed the loss of several commanders, including Hassan Nasrallah, due to an Israeli air strike.

Since September 23, when Israel intensified its bombings, over 700 lives have been claimed in Lebanon, causing massive displacement with many fleeing from south Lebanon, the eastern Bekaa Valley, and Beirut’s Dahiyeh. The Foreign Office has updated the full list of areas affected by the latest warning.
