The Nanny actress Fran Drescher has peeled back the covers of her personal life to share details of a very unconventional sex life. The 67-year-old actress and trade union boss played Fran Fine in the smash hit US television sitcom The Nanny from 1993 until 1999 – during which time she was married to actor, writer, director and producer Peter Marc Jacobson, also 67.

Fran and Peter tied-the-knot in 1978 but divorced in 1999 – and he later came out as gay following the end of the romance. Remaining close, the pair dramatised their lives by writing the TV series Happily Divorced which ran from 2011 until 2013 and starred the former couple alongside John Michael Higgins, Colin Ferguson and Dame Joan Collins.

Fran went on to enjoy a relationship with entrepreneur Shiva Ayyadurai from 2014 until 2016, while her romantic life has been kept out of the spotlight in the years since. However, the TV star has now shared an insight into her current romantic status – revealing she has something of an open romance.

Opening up to PageSix, the actress said: “I have a little rotation,” and adding: “I’m Fran Drescher. What do you think?” Her new comments come after recent interviews in which she said she did not plan to ever marry again and adding that she has “friends with benefits” rather than any serious romance.

In 2022, Fran revealed that her relationship with Peter was stronger in the present than it had been during their married years. She told the Daily Mail at the time: “[Peter and I are] closer than when we were married.” And described her ex as her “soulmate.”

She continued: “We are divorced, but still single because it is hard to compete with what we shared. We have been together since we were 15 and we’ve been through so much.”

While Peter commented: “When you are lucky in life and you meet your soulmate, there is nothing that can tear you apart. We vacation together. We do everything together… It is a deep, deep love.”

Peter revealed at the time that he too had no plans to walk down the aisle again, remarking: “I don’t think there is any reason to get married — it is just a license. It is the heart, not a signed piece of paper.”

Fans of The Nanny had been looking forward to a stage revival of the classic sitcom – which ran for six seasons and 146 episodes, with Charles Shaughnessy, Daniel Davis and Madeline Zima among the cast. However, the plans for a stage version of the show were hit by near constant seetbacks.

Fran previously revealed: “We’re going to resurrect it but between the [writers and actors] strike, my dad passing away and now the Palisades fires, which impacted my house… there’s only so much I can do.”

Discussing the wildfires that devastated large areas of Los Angeles at the start of the year, Fran explained that she is fortunate to have property on the East Coast of the USA.

She explained: “I have a place here in New York too. I’m very happy because this is my home, too.”
