Gabby Logan is set to become one of three hosts who will replace Gary Lineker on Match of the Day starting next year, but who is the legendary sports presenter and what do we know about her?
Gabby Logan is reportedly set to become one of three new presenters on Match of the Day next season.
Gary Lineker confirmed in November that he would be stepping down from his 25-year role as the host of BBC One’s flagship football highlights show at the end of the current 2024/25 season. The 64-year-old will continue to front the BBC’s FA Cup coverage next season as well as the 2026 World Cup in North America.
The impending vacuum left by the TV favourite led to endless speculation on his success, but it now appears that long-time BBC sports presenter Logan, Sky Sports’ Kelly Cates and MOTD 2 host Mark Chapman will share responsibility of the role once Lineker steps down.
Having already done a deep-dive into Cates’ impressive net worth and her famous dad, Mirror Football now brings you a full breakdown of everything we know about veteran broadcaster Logan, who joined the BBC back in 2007.
Massive net worth
There are few sporting events that the Leeds native has not covered since launching her broadcasting career in 1992. She joined Sky Sports in 1996 and quickly climbed the ranks of a male-dominated industry, later becoming an instantly recognisable face on British television.
She hosted Sport Relief for the BBC in 2004 before joining the corporation three years later. She started presenting her own morning show on BBC Radio 5 Live in 2008.
The 51-year-old has gone on to work on a range of sports, from football to swimming, on various BBC shows including Final Score, Inside Sport, Invictus Games, MOTD Six Nations, The Olympic Journey, The One Show, The Premier League Show, The World Swimming Championships, Women’s Football, as well as coverage of the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Paris Games.
It should therefore not come as any surprise that her past and present endeavours have led to her amassing a hefty reported net worth of around £4million during his 28 years at the top. That makes her the highest female earner in the sports journalism field.
Logan, who also hosts her own podcast, ranked seventh in a list of Britain’s highest-earning sports presenters and pundits for 2024 with a salary of £210,000, according to figures from Sportcasting, via SPORTbible.
Prior to her successful career on TV, radio, print and now podcasts, she placed 11th in rhythmic gymnastics at the 1990 Commonwealth Games in Auckland. She was inspired by her father, Tony Yorath, a Welsh international footballer who played for Leeds United and Canadian side Vancouver Whitecaps.
Rugby star husband
Gabby’s husband is Kenny Logan – a former Scotland rugby star who retired in 2004. During his career as a winger, he won three English Premierships with Wasps RFC and one Scottish Premiership title with Stirling County RFC, while also representing Scotland internationally on 70 occasions.
The couple married in 2001, after which she changed from her maiden name Yorath to Logan. Together they share twins Reuben and Lois, who were born on July 28, 2005.
Both Gabby and Kenny took part in the 2007 season of Strictly Come Dancing, where they appeared as rival contestants. Kenny was partnered with Ola Jordan, while Gabby teamed up with James, Ola’s husband. Sadly for Gabby, she was bested by her husband, ending the season in twelfth place while Kenny impressively came in fifth.
Kenny was diagnosed with dyslexia as a schoolboy, where he also had trials as a goalkeeper for Dundee United and Hearts. The 52-year-old was diagnosed with prostate cancer before being given the all-clear following treatment in 2022.
“It’s hard because when you’re told you’ve got cancer… I literally fell over,” Logan told BBC Breakfast. “I had no symptoms whatsoever.”
Jaw-dropping mansion
Logan has put her impressive salary to good use, purchasing a stunning semi-rural Edwardian mansion in Buckinghamshire, where she lives with Kenny. Gabby regularly offers a glimpse of her home to fans through her Instagram page.
Logan admitted the couple had to modernise and update the property, with the results speaking for themselves. “It’s an Edwardian house with a lot of character, but we have done loads of work to bring it right up to date. It is incredibly sunny and has loads of light, which I love,” she told The Metro.
Gabby has shared several photos from inside since living there – and it is truly breath-taking. The luxury pad boasts an open-plan kitchen and a dining room, having been designed with cream walls and black marble worktops, as well as a waterfall island in the middle of the space.
She transformed her lavish living room into a makeshift studio for a TV appearance during the pandemic, while upstairs, her bedroom follows the same muted design scheme with light grey walls and carpets, and cream furnishings. Her and Kenny’s bedroom is connected to its own dressing room, which is fitted with floor-to-ceiling wardrobes and shelves.
As well as having a home office, the sports-mad presenter even has her own home gym with wooden flooring. It includes several pieces of equipment including a jump box, a treadmill, a spin bike and a cross trainer.
