On the Beach said making the switch could save families thousands of pounds as well as annual leave, as the Easter period has two bank holidays
Holidaymakers could make huge savings by choosing Easter as their travel time instead of summer, according to one leading travel agency.
On the Beach claims that families can knock thousands of pounds off their holiday bills and conserve annual leave by opting for Easter holidays, thanks to the inclusion of two bank holidays within this period.
The outcome of this could see lower demand – and possibly lower prices – when summer comes around. Data from On the Beach indicates that bookings since early February for Easter getaways have been averaging 50% less costly than those slated for summer, representing a saving of £1,268.
Zoe Harris, the company’s chief customer officer, said: “As an online travel agent, we don’t control the price of hotels or flights. Due to the incredible demand for holidays during summer, and limited availability, prices are increased by hoteliers and flight providers and this cost is passed on to the customer via us. We want this to change, but it’s only achievable if people change their holiday habits.”
This year’s later-than-usual Easter presents an opportunity for travellers to bask in high temperatures without the price tag – Egypt promises highs reaching up to 30 degrees, the Canaries and Greece both offering 24 degrees and 22 degrees in Turkey.
To put it into perspective, On the Beach offers the example of a family of four embarking on a seven-night, all-inclusive stay at a four-star Costa Blanca hotel in Spain, including flights. Over Easter, this would cost £2,175, whereas the equivalent trip in August would come to £3,712.
