A woman has been left in fits of laughter after hearing the names of the children in her son’s class, leaving her to wonder whether their mums were still on gas and air when naming them
While some parents pass names down through the generations, others opt for a unique moniker to ‘help their child stand out in life’.
But one mum says she has been struggling to hold in her laughter after hearing the names of the children in her son’s class, believing them to be “ridiculous”.
She explained how her son’s teacher created a list of her 20 students’ names so other children could write them Valentine’s Day cards.
However when reviewing the list, she couldn’t help but question whether their mums were still under the effects of gas and air when naming their children in the delivery room.
In a Reddit post, she said: “My son’s class list. I’ll never understand what’s wrong with parents these days…” The list reads:
- Mylinda-Joelei
- Isabella
- Hudson
- Careline
- Nevaeh
- Jackson
- Dylan
- Olivia
- Mason
- Praise
- Jori
- Archie
- Emily
- Sara
- Kaelyn
- Xavier
- Christian
- Alaena
- Penelope
- Makynkleigh
Commenting on the names, one user said: “I was reading down the list and thought, ‘Okay this isn’t awful’ then I got to Makynkleigh.” Another user added: “Praise, pronounced Robert.” A third user said: “I thought nothing could dethrone the rage I feel for Neveah but Makynkleigh is very close.” One more user added: “20 is only missing a few letters short of the entire alphabet. I hate to think what their middle name is.”
It comes after a dad admitted to changing his daughter’s middle name behind his wife’s back because he didn’t like it. He explained how he and his wife came to an agreement over baby names before even trying for children – saying he could name their firstborn son while she could name their firstborn daughter.
But their future child’s middle name was always ‘up in the air’, as they struggled to agree on who could choose the name. Taking to Reddit, he said: “My wife and I just had our second child, a baby girl. The only thing we didn’t agree on was middle names
“My wife decided because she had carried the children she would decide both of their middle names. She wanted to pass on a family traditional name on her mother’s side and wanted to pass on her paternal grandmother’s middle name as well.
“Our first child, a boy, has the family’s traditional middle name from her mother’s side. It’s a unisex name that always goes to the firstborn child.” When having their firstborn, the man says he “didn’t care” about the middle name – but this changed when their daughter was brought into the world.
“I asked her if we could give the baby my grandmother’s middle name and she said no,” he added. “We fought but I gave up. Until the nurse came in with the papers to name the child. My wife was passed out asleep and the nurse just asked if we had a name picked out. I said yes and filled out the form with my grandmother’s middle name. When my wife woke up an hour later I decided to tell her the truth immediately instead of hide it.
“She was p***ed. We got into a huge fight and she claimed she’d be changing it but she can’t because you need both parents to sign off on a name change. It’s been three days and my wife is giving me the silent treatment. Along with her visiting family. Even my family said it was a cruel thing to do while she was asleep.”
