Research says it takes about 6 months for 68% of people to settle into a cleaning routine, while 16% admitted they never find one but don’t worry TikTok Cindell Kimbrough has shared cleaning methods that could help

Moving into a new home often comes with the daunting task of establishing a cleaning routine, especially when clutter can make a space feel perpetually untidy.

Many people struggle to find a method that works for them. According to a 2023 survey by Affresh, 68% of people take about six months to settle into a cleaning routine, while 16% admitted they never find one. But don’t worry – TikTok Cindell Kimbrough has shared cleaning methods that could help.

Kimbrough, a 37-year-old content creator and former professional cleaner from Tennessee, shared a viral video with over 6 million views, showcasing a step-by-step routine for cleaning large homes in record time. She said: “The biggest house I ever cleaned was around 5,000 square feet, and I got it done in less than five hours… so this works.”

Her method breaks down the cleaning process into manageable sections, focusing only on one room at a time. Kimbrough said: “If it’s a big open space, make it into a room. I have ADHD – if I make myself do this, I clean so fast. If not, I’ll be cleaning all day and it’ll look like I did nothing.”

She added that the best way to clean up is to place anything that doesn’t belong in the room just outside the door, rather than take it to its correct location immediately. This means you won’t get distracted or pick up something along the way and start on another task, she added that the mental aspect of cleaning is the biggest hurdle but if you can redirect your mind to the job at hand then you can get things done quickly.

However, there is one catch to this otherwise helpful method – staying on track. Many, including Kimbrough herself, admit that distractions can easily arise, even with the most structured plans. However setting a timer so you know the cleaning won’t be endless can help make the task less daunting making you less likely to be distracted or walk away from it.

Another trick is to watch cleaning videos as you clean because they can motivate you to start the task. According to Kimbrough watching the cleaning process through videos can help you have a mindset shift from ‘this is too much’ to ‘this is doable.’” This cleaning method may not work for everyone but consistency is the key to keeping things tidy, while this hack can certainly help organise a space quickly, the challenge lies in maintaining focus – a common issue for many of us.

Commenting on the video, one person said: “This decluttering hack could give you a nice tidy room by focusing on one area at a time.”
